Mixed Chorus What My ”M Means to Me When I was a freshman and went out for football, I think that I wanted my M just so I could be like the other boys who had theirs already. But I never got it that year nor the next. Maybe it was because I wasn't ready for it - because I didn't really know what it meant. During those two years, I like to think that I became better and wiser. Now my M means that 1 have something besides an education to take with me when I graduate. It's some- thing I worked hard to get, but it was worth every bit of that hard work. It means that 1 have a small piece of M. A. to take with me to remember it by. I can think back because 1 have something to think back with. I can remember the days out on the ball field with other teammates. I can also remember the fun we had rough housing around while the coaches got mad at us for doing so. Maybe I could remember all this without an M”, but with it I can remember so much more and so much more clearly. In a sense my M means about everything I have done in high school. Before I got it, it was like a chal- lenge, daring me to edge closer. Now that 1 have it, it is still a challenge, telling me to put out more, to work harder, or else to give it back to the school. Actually it means everything an M should mean to me. As we all know, on a football field it takes men playing together, even if we do lose. What is more im- portant - winning a game or observing the rules of sportsmanship. I learned the hard way that sportsmanship is always the more important. - Reggie Murchison President Vice-President Secretary-Treasurer Advisors NORMA BRIGGS BRENT WALSH SHEILA CLAIR MISS KNEELAND MR. aETCHER MR. EDES Assembly Committee The Assembly Committee was complimented this year for keeping the majority of its assemblies on an edu- cational theme. An exchange Christmas assembly was presented at Lee and was a great success. We have also joined a National Assembly Club which will allow us to present professional talent in our assemblies on several occasions. Officers for 1959-60 were: President. Ronda Savage; Vice President, Bonnie Boone; Secretary-Treas- urer. Betty Littlefield; Advisor. Mrs. Arsenault. Safety Council The Safety Council was quite active this year. They erected a safety slogan sign in front of the school, at- tended the convention in Presque Isle, and had many money-making projects. The officers for 59-60 were: General Chairman, Natalie Coburn; Assistant Chairman, Brent Walsh; Secretary, Bonnie Gulesian; Recording Sec- retary, Donna Steeves; Treasurer, Norma Briggs; Advisor, Mr. Merritt. Librarians The Library staff this year is headed by Judy Dolley with Iris McCormick as Secretary-Treasurer and Mr. Paul Hinton as Advisor. The main project of the staff was the purchase of new drapes for the library as well as the addition of many new books and magazines. Football The fortunes of Lincoln football were at a low ebb this past season as the Lynx didn’t win a game. The team consisted of seven seniors who were instrumental in the improvement of the team throughout the season. Inex- perience and a small squad hindered the development of a better team. However, some fine underclassmen, es- pecially in the line, may bring a winning season into the Lynx camp next fall. Seniors graduating are Co-Cap- tain, Dick Steeves, who was 2nd team all-little 8, Co-Captain Duane Moody, Brent Walsh, Clair Sutherland, Doug Dill, Charles Towle, and Paul Gillo. Although the loss of these men would hurt any team, the returnees for next year led by Harold Whitten and Reginald Murchison give the Lynx a better outlook. Gary Crocker, Bill Wilson, Ronnie Cote, Amos Dolley, Dick Leen, Bob Murphy, Mike Whalen, all lettermen, and other underclass- men have the necessary experience to produce next fall. For the basketball sea- son the girls wore maroon corduroy skirts, gray sweat- ers with an M. A. basket- ball on them, white socks and white buck shoes. Megaphones were awarded to Bonnie Boone, Johanna DeCourcy, Ronda Savage, and Elizabeth Steeves. TEAM - left to right; W. Fisher, Manager; D. Brown, C. Sutherland, M. St. Thomas, M. Webster. R. Tenan, H. Whitten. G. Osborn, M. Whalen, R. Miller, W. Crocker, P. Smith. BACK: H. Clay, Manager. Varsity Basketball M. A. 's varsity basketball team had a record of 10 wins and 8 losses during the regular season. They finished second in the NPL winning 3 games and losing 3. This year's team didn't have much experience but improved tremendously throughout the season. With only one senior graduating, Lincoln should have a fine team next year. Six foot, nine inch Bob Tenan led the NPL in scoring and was picked to the all WPL team. Next year should be a good one for Bob. Merritt Webster showed that he was capable of playing good basketball and will be a big asset to next year's team. Clair Suther- land is the only player graduating this year. He was also a member of the all NPL team and will be missed next year. Donnie Brown and Gary Osborn are two fine sophomores who did an excellent job this year in the backcourt. They were backed up by Peter Smith and Billy Crocker. Other members of the team were H. Whitten, M. Whalen, R. Miller, J. Thomas, M. St. Thomas, and R. Lindsay. The Lynx lost to Schenck in the playoffs after defeating Patten Academy. This gave them a 11-9 record for the season. Next year will find the Lynx the team to watch as everyone returns, ex- cept playmaker Clair Sutherland. 's enjoyed their best season in five years winning nine and losing eight. Inconsistent foul-shooting led to some of the Lynx losses, especially against Schenck and Stearns where the Lynx only converted 11 for 32 in each game. Although the J.V. 's were outscored by their opponents, they displayed a great deal of fight and hustle. Two Sophomores, R. Lindsay and V. Lindquist, and 3 Freshmen, M. St. Thomas, J. Thomas, and D. Ludden made up the starting five, while B. Wilson and D. Smith saw much service. Mike St. Thomas was the leading scorer and rebounder with totals of 152 and 160 respectively. Roger Lindsay was second in rebounds with 152, while Joe Thomas and Vernon Lindquist scored 121 points each. Doug Ludden was the most improved player and was very instrumental in the J.V. Girls' Basketball With only 2 of last year's starting 6 returning, M. A. 's Girls’ Team still had a highly successful year. They ended the season with a 5-2 record, their losses being to Howland and Milo. The team, coached by Miss Kneeland, won the NORTHERN PENOBSCOT CHAMPIONSHIP. The managers were Natalie Coburn and Bonnie Gulesian. Those receiving their letters were Joan Bowers, Norma Briggs, Sheila Clair, Peggy Hanscom, Wanda Leavitt, Gloria Sutherland, Nancy Philbrook, and Manager, Natalie Coburn. There are thirteen members on the team and skiing has been made a letter sport. Mr. Gatcombe, the instructor, thinks that prospects for the future are very bright. The Ski Team has erected a ski jump for this year, and a new trail has been cut through the woods which makes the slope a lot better for skiers. Instructor and Captain MEETS P. C. 's baseball team did not fare too well record-wise as the Lynx finished the season with a 1-8 record. Although they lost more than they won, valuable experience was gained. The Lynx have lost five members from the 1959 team, but have lettermen B. Walsh, R. Miller, C. Towle, R. Cote, G. Pratt, H. Whitten, C. Sutherland, and M. Whalen returning. This nucleus plus a keen interest in baseball arising this spring points to a fine season. The Lynx will be a dark horse candidate for NPL honors as they begin practice the first of March. They will journey to Hancock County April 29 and 30 to play Bucksport, Ellsworth, and Pemetic. These three games plus ten league games will give the Lynx a tough schedule. M. A. 2 Lee 7 M.
