To the Senior, there are memories of the years behind them and hopes of the future. To the Freshman, time brings to mind the idea that they have just started an entirely new period of their lives. The years ahead in high school look bright and holds the promise of their future. The hours spent in Mathis High, in studying, going to classes, the parties after the games, the time spentin talking with ou r classmates- -all of these are things which none of us wants to forget. In order that we might help you to remember these, the staff of the Galleon has tried to collect and preserve in this volume, the many memories we do not want time to dim. William Allison Guynes, Jr. Editor High up o’er the field of battle Waves Maroon and White . Our team advancing, Straight into the fight. Strong with faith undaunted. Victory will come true. The greatest need today of all boys and girls is educa¬ tion. In short, darkness, despair, and ignorance abound where there is no education. The foundation of our freedom is undoubtedly knowl¬ edge and wisdom brought together by the process of education. There are no finer boys and girls than those found in Mathis High School. The children throughout the entire system abound with enthusiasm for learning. They are courteous, re¬ spectful, and thoughtful o f others. It is this type of boy and girl in this kind of school that makes my pro¬ fession the most wonderful pro¬ fession there is. The cost of opera¬ tion of our schools should not be termed as an expense but as an in¬ vestment in people. An investment in boys and girls that will pay rich dividends. It is my sincere wish that every boy and girl in Mathis High School will look upon his ten¬ ure as a challenge and an oppor¬ tunity. These are the wonderful years. It is always a pleasure to have a small part in the molding of character among boys and girls. My congratulations to the annual staff and their sponsors in making this production a reality. MR.
