SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Students: The administration of the Mathis Schools realizes the keen responsibility that is theirs in ad¬ ministering a well-rounded educational program for boys and girls of our community. However sure we are that the responsibility of taking advantage of these offerings rest with the individual and not the whole, we know that when the columns are added and the cost and accomplishments are placed side by side in that ledger of adolescent life, that surely our students will measure far beyond our expectations. Life is a wonderful game and with the training we hope that you will receive in the Mathis High School, we are sure that you will meet the challenge it may offer. The most precious gem in life is truth. The only positive force in life is love for one’s fellow man. Fine characters are built on truth and love. The character you mold in high school is yours. The manner in which you mold it can be greatly enhanced if you will accept the challenge. In the words of Baron Pierre DeCoubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic games, I would say this to you: The main issue in life is not the victory but the fight. The essential thing is not to have won but to have fought well!
