Our School is dedicated to teaching and learning truths found in books and truths learned from life. It is hoped that well rounded students leave this building better fitted for life. 3 Dedicated Mr. E. F. Hudgins, Jr. , Principal-dedicated to Mathews High School and the students. Mr. Dennis Forrest, Superintendent-Dedicated to im proving the educational system of Mathews County. The Office—Busy Our school office is like a small railroad station with all types of ac¬ tivities. Mr. Hudgins may be talking to a wayward boy, or interviewing a high school senior about his acceptance to college. There is always a line wait¬ ing to see him, or a phone ringing, and he is attentive to all. Mr. Forrest is the man behind all the men. A frequent visitor, he is well known, admired and respected by stu¬ dents and teachers. It is amazing how he keeps track of all the things he has to do. He is indeed, as inspiring as he is efficient. IATHE HIGH SO 1 Efficient School Secretary--What can we say of Marty? Always kind, always smiling, she ' s everybody ' s good right arm. Mr. Hudgins, our handsome principal, is genuinely interested in the school and its pupils. His wonderful personality wins him many friends, as well as his ability to put folks at ease. Miss Nellie Callis-- This year the Clipper staff of 1968 pays special tribute to one who has served so faithfully and so well for forty-seven years. Mathews High School was nine years old when Miss Nellie joined its faculty in 1948. She didn ' t merely work eight hours but toiled unceasingly as students will verify. Any¬ one coming to Miss Nellie would encounter a friendly face and a helping hand. If they were dejected, Miss Nellie would brighten them up with her kind remarks and her sense of humor. With such interest in Mathews High School, one would wonder just what this won¬ derful person will do upon retiring. The question is easily answered. She will go on serving her community, her church and her fellowman in the same kind way. The students of Mathews owe their sincere appreciation to this remarkable woman who is a friend to all. What can we say except Well done, thou good and faithful servant. MATHEWS HiG’ri bCrluGL LlbKAbH Senior Year Is Senior Officers: Steve Hudgins, President, Betty Jane Eriksen, Historian. Look, Out—Here We Come— June 7, is the date--10:00 A.M. is the time and the sign really should read: Look out, Summer, here we come. Exams are over. One hundred and eighty good school days have passed too. It really has been a good year for all of us. It is time to think about relaxation and the ole swimming hole. It is time to think about fishing, clam¬ ming and the wonderful Mathews County beaches. So last year, so far as school is concerned, is past history. The seniors have moved on to greater things, we think. The Juniors prepare to fill their dignified shoes, and each class moved up a step on the academic ladder. The buses load for the last run and the school doors close, leav¬ ing the tired old building to relax until September, when eager feet again enter and it will all begin again. 76 V X ' - V MA ' VHilv,;, f SI£ HIGH SCHOOL LlBHA 1  W V I V- u- X- u - ■u i ( • r  ■ ' r j .j±j Vl i k A i-
