The Varsity and Junior Varsity Mathematics Club participated in math contests in two leagues. The Catholic School League included schools in New York, New jersey, and Connecticut. One of the participants, Shawn Carroll, was selected as an alternate for the State contest. The Varsity students entered the Shore Math League and traveled each 3rd U Tuesday to another Shore School for the contest. Debators Kevin Slattery and john Sheppard discuss this year's National Debate topic on The Forensic Club is an organization whose goal is excellence in public speaking. This chapter is a member of the National Forensic League, NJ. Forensic League and the Trenton Catholic League. Among the tournaments entered this year were the 1 Long Branch Speech Arts Festival, NJ. Forum, NJ. District Speaking and Debate, Marlboro H.S. Annual Festival, Seton Hall University Varsity Debate Contest, and the Monmouth College Model UN. One member was honored this year by the National League John Sheppard. He was awarded The Degree of Distinction - the highest award granted. We are doubly proud of John for his acceptance at the United States Military Academy at West Point. ' - g world resources with moderator Miss Judith McKay. The format used was the Lincoln-Douglas style and the topics were historical in nature. Coached by Miss McKay, Shawn Carroll represented Mater Dei and received first place in the District Competition and fifth in the Sectional. Shawn also received second place in the Knights of Pythius Speech Tournament which used bicentennial themes.
