Probably the most chaotic day of the year at any high school is the first day. This year at Matawan we out did ourselves; we surpassed the previous level of confusion by approximately 75%. The reason for all this confusion can be summed up in two words — the computer. This year for the first time student’s schedul- ing was done through a computer service in Long Branch. New Jersey. The idea behind using this new method was to eliminate much of the paper work in the office. Unfortunately, the plan failed and the computer, in all its glory, proved to be fallible. So many schedules were incorrect that it took almost two weeks to correct the mistakes. There were students who were scheduled for three periods of Physical Education, two lunches, two study halls and three lockouts. (Lockout means you do not belong in school for that period.) Of course there was always that poor senior who was not scheduled for history. He knew that he could not graduate without it. so he fearfullv walked up to the guidance office. There he waited, and waited, and waited, until finally his moment came when he was resched uled by that sometimes fallible invention called the human mind. Isn't technology great! The First Day . . .
