These students visited Freehold as our representatives and saw how the county government conducts business affairs, makes money appropria- tions, runs institutions, and makes rules and regulations for managing the county. They visited the Hall of Records, the County Clerk’s office, the jail, and the office of the Surrogate. He spent eight days at Rutgers- the State University - where he learned about the workings of the State government, participated in the election of officers, as well as visiting Trenton to observe the gov- erning bodies themselves. Last year, the Citizenship Award was given by the Women's Club of Matawan to Leslie Lockwood and Jo Ann Cusick (alter- nate). Each year a junior girl who has the qualities of leadership, citizenship, and scholastic ability receives the award. Leslie attended Douglass College for a week, learning how the college functions, hearing lectures, and entering into a planned recreation program.
