Sr. lr. Picnic — September IS. 1986. Another year with the threat of rain but it sure didn't dampen our spirits. I he halls rocked with anxious students as they reluctantly went to their first and second periods classes. In the meantime. Mark P. must have been wishing that he was in class as a Monroe cop pulled him over for pulling whole shots. Rumor has it that 'Keith B. also got pulled over for passing but was let go because he looked ''innocent. (?) The rest of the day was full of activity! As the sun broke out, the spirits also shined. Everyone rushed to the lake to be splashed, tipped, and slimed. Unfortunately. Kenny F. and Keith B. got kicked off the paddleboats even before they got on. (Must have been something about Keith, eh?). The lake wasn't the only place where people got wet. Some even got drenched when they didn't want to be, such as Cindy H. and Kathy O., who couldn't escape from Randy H. and his crew. Eventually Randy ended up in the pool with all of his clothes on! Even though the picnic was being video-taped, it was almost impossible to look your best. If you didn't end up in the pool, then there was a good chance that you got slimed in a mud fight, (ewww!) which was located in the cul-de-sac, hidden away from the dock crew. Even though Nicole F. looked like no prized beauty, she still managed to win a few prizes in the races. The big winners turned out to be Reido S. and Ralphie R., representatives of the senior class, who managed to finish off the egg toss without getting egg- ed on. unlike Frank D. who got wasted by an egg. The Class of '87 turned out to be victors as they beat the |rs. at volleyball. Ping-Pong, frisbee, horseshoes, soccer, and baseball were also available and left their marks in many memories, especially Greg G.'s, who sprained his wrist sliding into homeplate. The most popular activity, besides eating the dif- ferent types of food that ranged from sticky, spicey, B-B-Q'd chicken to a cake made especially for Masuk High, was dancing under the pavilion. The dance floor was packed with beat-driven people. Ouring one song Bill H. showed his Madonna moves for the camera and in the next people limboed, with Kenny K. leading them off. Keeping the main lead. Kenny took an assistant. Jackie C, and taught us all about rappin' with You Be Him by Run DMC. Next came the slam dancing when even the D.J. joined the crowd to smash into each available slammer. The bus ride home was quiet and relaxing. Most of the energy had been used up throughout the day. Now it was time to reflect upon the picnic and to cherish the celebration that the upperclassmen took pari in. ▲ Three is company with leelo L, Kathy T., Julie A. ► Senior Randy Horn shows his true colors. ►► Little Baron pitches a fast ball. SPIRIT - a slate of being lull ol energy or anima- tion. Thai is exactly what intensified and brought together Masuk during Spirit Week '86. Each class par- ticipated in the week-long festivities by adhering to their themes and trying to out—do. out drc ss. and out-spint the other classes. Tuesday was marked Hat Day. Hats ranged from everyday baseball caps to unique, handmade works of art. freshman, |en F. won for her unusual and clever hat composed of fruits, records, flags, and a hodge-podge of other things. The most intriguing day was Wednesday, or better known as Dress Up Day ... Freshmen look their theme literally and dressed up (or down), from rags to rn hev The Sophomores look on reverse roles and went from one extreme to another as transvestites. Printed up as newspaper celebrities, the luniors portrayed famous politicians, sports figures, and cornu characters. (Iven Batman and Robin the Boy (giri?) Wonder were on the scene!). The senior class added a twist to their theme and titled it Anything Coes (Boy did it ever!). The class was taken back to the fifties wearing bobbie-socks and leather, to the sixties as peace-loving flower children, brought back to the punkers of the '80's, and even into their fond childhood memories with cartoon favorites Bugs Bunny (|eff N.), Woody Woodpecker (Dan S.), and Pepe le Pu. the skunk (Ken K.)... all 3 on rollerskates!! On Thursday, all costumes were put away vigorous, but fun work was under way! Once again, the classes |oined together to build on their themes (or Hall Day. In a few hours they transformed Masuk's hallways, and themselves, to fantasy lands and creative centers. Now sit back and relax ... you're going to go on a |Ourney back in time ... ... Starting in the Freshman hall, you're taken down the electrifying streets of New York, observing the glit ter and glamour. Turn down an alley and find yourself wanting to skip through the Sophomores' Candyland where everything is made of sugar and honey. OOPS! the molasses swamp could prove to be cjuite a sticky situation if you don't tip-tde by very carefully! Puzzled?! Then you've probably reached the Junior Hall! Their creative maze of black and white might bewilder you, but don't worry, all questions will be answered as you read the latest headlines. You've had enough of the political facts, sports articles, and |uicy scoops? Well then, by all means fold up your newspaper and lake a deep breath! (you'll need it!) Beckoning bugles greet you and an enchanted castle is on your right. At last .. . you've reached the senior hall! Just cross the mote and (ta-da! Imperial!), you are in a castle straight from King Arthur’s day remember the theme though to obey the supreme, the Seniors! A breathtaking view, indeed! A maiestic throne, lovely Queens, the Royal Guard, |Ousters and jesters, and even a pet panther completes the scene. The point re- mains clear — Panthers Reign Supreme — after all, the Cavaliers did end up in the dungeon, right?! Slip out the back exit, and you're back in reality! Hey. you'd better hurry ... there is a celebration going on down at the field! Yes, the bonfire! Glowing flames raged with spirit and we all knew that it was time to relax and rest-up for Friday's grand finale ▲ Not only posters were painted .. . Bob L. and Michele L. ▼ Cheerful librarians join in to display their spirit. Keep smiling, Mrs. Preston! ◄ ▼ “Oh geez!
