Masuk Masquerades 4 Spirit Week

Spirit Week is a Masuk tradition designed to foster school pride for the Homecoming football game. Each day of the week held special meaning, ex- pressed through different themes that gave students the chance to go a little crazy in the otherwise structured Masuk community. Kicking off this exciting week, Hat Day boasted a variety of creative hats. Among the favorites were sombreros, baseball caps, and berets. Some students chose to make a specific fashion state- ment by coordinating their hats with the rest of their outfit. This event proved to be a mere glimpse of the spirit that would be generated during the week. The following day, Dress-Up Day, gave students the opportunity to design original costumes for the theme of their class. The freshmen imitated their favorite rock stars, while the sophomores wore either halos and wings or horns and fiery red outfits as angels and devils. Some juniors carried their nautical theme to an extreme, pulling carts full of homemade “beach” around school. The seniors dressed in garb from Gilligan's Island to Miami Vice for their television theme. The staff got into the act, with the Math Department wearing numbers and the Social Studies Department sporting red, white, and blue. Not to be out-done, the office once again donned formal attire. Different worlds meshed together brought forth a combination of heaven, hell, heat, and Hollywood. Once again, Dress-Up Day was a huge success! By Thursday, everyone was gearing up for hall decorating. Long hours of preparation and team work transformed Masuk’s corridors into fantastic works of art that literally came alive with human displays. 1 — Frank Dcasc gels ready for a lake off. 2 — Denise Massari and Stacy O’Connell pose with the devil. 3 — WAVE” goodbye!!! 4 — Kirsten Beck, otherwise kilown as Punky Brewster. 5 — Roger Grant models his fashionable winning hat 6 — Planting a mushroom in Oi is Kim Donaldson. 7 — Sophomore Karen Baudouin flashes a smile. 8 — Glen Ledoux signals to earth. 9 ”lt’s not the size of the wave, it’s the motion of the ocean! 10 — Voila! And here appears the genic of the year 11 — Kim Cafora gets caught in the storm of leaves. 12 — Lisa on the beach — Lcclo on the leash. 13 — Class of'89 reaches to the sky. 14 — A nice smile from a nice girl 15 — Special staff in formal attire.
