Panthers Ride the Wave The crackling bonfire on Thursday even- ing gave students a chance to come together and keep the flame of school spirit burning. Each class contributed a stuffed New Milford football “dummy” to the dancing flames. Red and White Day found a great many students wearing Masuk’s colors. Some painted their hair, faces, and even clothes with symbols of school pride. That afternoon, while the underclassmen filed into the gym, the seniors stirred with impatience outside. The walls of the gym, ablaze with colorful posters, echoed the ex- citement within the room. Suddenly, with a thunderous roar, the seniors burst in shouting and cheering. When they finally found their seats, it was once again time to stand as the band played the National Anthem. The song built to a crashing crescendo as streamers filled the air. The cheering continued throughout the assembly, each class striving to be the loudest and most spirited. At the conclusion of the rally, the students swarmed out of the hot gym, tired and hoarse. The excitement was over, but only for the time being. It all came back at the Homecoming Game against New Milford. The yearbook staff cir- culated color through the crowd by selling balloons as the German Club warmed the stomachs of many with their pretzels. Halftime honored the Homecoming royal- ty and classes and clubs displayed their creative banners. Alumni milled about, as Benedict Field was filled with spectators. Our Panthers truly “surfed the Green Wave” under the lights that night, downing New Milford 28-14 to maintain a perfect record. The game ended with the stands littered with confetti, and a very spirited Masuk crowd satisfied with their victory.
