MASUK HIGH SCHOOL MONROE, CONNECTICUT VOLUME XVIII TOGETHER. . . 3 We stand as I reach for that time. and it will come. 7 “Reflections on the water shadows in my mind. Speak to me of passing days and nights of passing times” V ± J. Denver And the seasons they go round and round and the painted ponies go up and down We’re captured on a carousel of time — I’m takin’ the time to find, some new roads into my mind, discoverin’ things and giving them wings. It’s time that we learned to fly. 16 Thank You, Mrs. Sherman “I can’t live my life over but I can live the rest of it to the fullest degree possible. I think I'll make more mistakes from now on. I’m going to relax and be less rigid — with myself and with others. I’m going to be less complex and much more open and far less serious about everything. I will be a little crazier. I’m going to climb more mountains and ride more horses. I'll eat more apple pie a la mode and less of the stuff that is ‘‘good for me.” I’m going to sing in the shower more loudly. I’m going to eat more dinners out and have wine with every meal. I’m going to splash in more mud puddles.” 17 L. K. Life can be so difficult (Although it really is so simple) People feel impatient Every minute of the day Not knowing what awaits them As time ticks by and the hour glass shifts Father Time claims, that when the moon appears It’s sending us advice. That one should have no fear As to what awaits them in the future For soon it will be here. D. Del Percio 126 Social Studies Row 1: R. Bloom, J. Sobeck. Row 2: D. Rowell, J. Benedict, K. Swasey, J. This record was the team’s best in seven years, and although the record was not among the leaders, the caliber of play was. Midway through the second half of the season the team ventured to arch-rival Barlow and battled to a 1-1 tie, knocking Barlow out of first place. Masuk then tied two more straight before ending the year with that elusive first win. Seniors Joe O'Neill, Tim O'Hara and Jeff Plain added strength to a young team which included numerous outstanding under- classmen. — Just for Kicks! The team's top runner, junior Mark Katz, became a medal winner in the W.C.C. Championships. The team had its largest turnout of female runners this year, five in total. The offensive forward line consisted of senior Cherylyn Walker, juniors Karen Kennelly, Mary Moore and Laura Cottle. Sophomore Debbie Olson and freshman Cindy Fiedler. On the defensive end the team relied on senior fullbacks Kathy Buckley, Heidi Isaac, and Donna Tannucci. Junior Sue Sherwood did an excellent job in the goal cage and halfbacks Julie Anderson, Terne Johnson and Maureen O’Leary worked aggressively both offensively and defensively. 161 Football Coach Lombardo, Coach Giaquinto, Coach Butler, R. Last year the Panthers shared the league reins with backyard foe Newtown and neighboring rival Joel Barlow. This year s Panther attack was led by captains Luke Zinsky, going both ways at tackle, Rich Brown grinding it out in the trenches, and area scoring leader Anthony Lombardo in the backfield. The Masuk defense led by linebacker Earl Zergiebel and cornerback Paul Zisk, averaged less than a touchdown a game before Thanksgiving. Offensively with Rick Creaturo and Jeff Forrest at tackles, Mario Alberghini at center, guard Chris Montross, quarterback and offensive player of the year Rich Connor and center Frank Mastrone, the Panthers were one of the top scoring teams in the state. The Panthers rolled through the W.C.C. with an unapproached 8-0 mark and a record of 9 wins and 1 loss on the season, a feat never accomplished by a Masuk grid force before. 163 Now that the year is all but done. The seniors this year were the builders of this team. They took the team from club status, to a ranked varsity hockey team. Those Seniors are B. Scott, goalie; K. Doyle, right wing; D. The group partic- ipates in developmental meets, conference meets, and state competition meets. This season’s captains were Rich Conner, hurdler, sprinter and state competitor; Luke Zinsky, shot putter and field performer with state rank; and Mark Katz, a leading distance runner and relay performer, also a competitor of state caliber. The program offers training to students who are involved in spring track and desire a regulated training program in the off season. It also allows students who are new to the sport an opportunity to experiment with their ability to be a track and field competitor. 180 Goffin Masuk Field Hockey Team The Jordan Family Mama Loch Beth Rickand Val always Masuk Softball Team Richie and Terri Good Luck, Class of 78 Best wishes from the Masuk Hock|y Team Eat my cookie D.W., if you only knew!
