 THE WASHINGTON TRIP (continued) Our first stop was made at the Bureau of Printing and Engraving,, Let me clue you - Money does not grow sn trees Other important stops that were made that morning were the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Pan American Buildinga Most of us had the privilege of seeing President Eisenhower, and Vice- President and Mrs, Nixon9 Our next stop was luncho This was-, of course, the best of them all,, After lunch we went to the National Art Gallery and the Archives Building, These two took up most of the afternoon. We went back to the hotel about 5:00 to get ready for dinner, and our night tour of Washington. On our night tour we saw the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol Building all lit up0 We went back to the hotel where some of us stayed in the rooms while the others went down to the rumpus room0 In the rumpus room was soda, and a juke box. Mr, Garrity told us to get back in the hotel rooms by 11:00 P.M. At this point Mr, Garrity played a dirty trick on us. When no one was looking, he turned the clock a half hour ahead. When everybody thought it was close to 11:00 it was really around 10:30 and they say we teenagers are hard to handle'. Friday morning everybody was up at 7:30. We dressed, packed and got ready to resume our tour. Our first stop was breakfast. After breakfast we went to the Capitol Building, the White House, Supreme Court Building, and the Congressional Library. Our last stop before lunch was the Washington Monument. If you have trouble eating, just climb the monument I After lunch we went to the Arlington Cemetery where the tomb of the unknown soldier is located. We got there just in time to see the changing of the guards. While we were there we saw the Iwo Jima Monument. We went down to Alexandria, Virginia, where we saw Washington's home, Mount Vernon. We came back to Washington where we had dinner. Then we went to the National Airport where they let us roam around.

VALENTINE DANCE This dance was sponsored by the Student Councils It was held in the cafeteria It lasted two and a half periods There were many varieties of records; Waltzes, Bop, Stroll, Chicken, and a Polka We paid ten cents for the refreshments. There was punch, cookies, cupcakes, and cake. The committees were as follows: Clean-up: After the dance most of the boys cleaned up Advertising: Sally Ward Decorations: Louise Ward Program: Susan Hammond Refreshments: Libby Vaughan Music: Michael Williams and Tom DeLuca The dance was well organized and a success This marked the first dance in the cafeteria Everyone arrived at the school Wednesday night about 10:45 P.M We left for Washington about 11:15 P,M The teachers who accompanied us were Mrs. Burlison, Mr Backer, Mr. Garrity and Mr Mathews Most of us were pretty excited, so we didn't get much sleep on the way down, except for some party-poopers We made two rest stops on our way down to Washington, The first was at Howard Johnsons. Can you imagine an ice-cream cone at 2:00 A.M. t We arrived at Washington about 7:00 A.M. where we all freshened up We had breakfast after that and were on our way once more THE WASHINGTON TRIP

THE WASHINGTON TRIP (continued) The last part of our trip was the boat ride down the Potomac River over to the amusement park on Marshall Island,, The boat was really beautiful0 They had dancing, refreshments, and a sight seeing deck. We didn’t stay too long at the amusement park - only an hour0 WTe left for home again about 12:15 A0Mr On our way home we had a couple of beautiful singers. About 3:00 AoHo we awoke to the lovely, dream-like song of rtZorron sung by the Melody Twins, Betsy Hair and Barbara Ellison, It took us quite a while to calm them down. Just when we thought we had succeeded, ’’Zorro rises again. We arrived home about 7:30 A.M, I think everybody was pretty tired, but in all our trip was wonderful and I know everybody would like to do it again, (as soon as they buy a new pair of shoes).
