Cider was supplied by the P. T. A. The decorating committee did a wonderful job in decorating the auditorium. A disc jockey is always up on the latest records like Dave Loveland, but what happens when it comes to dancing records? During the course of the dance there was a Saddie Hawkins dance. That's when the boys had a workout. CHRISTMAS PARTY We all entered Mrs. Anderson's room for our Christmas Party0 In great confusion the cards were passed out. Cake and ice cream were given out by refreshment committee. Our great disc jockey was on the ball playing all the latest records. At 2:15 everybody gathered their belongings and left for the long awaited Christmas vacation. November 20, 1956 Place - Monroe School Destination - United Nations, New York City From 8:00 a„as to 8:15 a.ra the ninth grade was arriving at school with their eyes half open. We got aboard the school bus left for the B ridgeport Railroad Station. Our train was to arrive at 8:59. We got on the train. At last we were on our way. 10:45 we arrived in New York. Now comes the walking. It wasn’t a slow walk by any means. Then we finally arrived at the United Nations. The first place we went to was the General Assembly, After we left there we went to eat. The telephone booths were packed with Monroe Junior High Students, The millionaires ate in the restaurant. After that fast meal we started the tour. Everything went smooth except for one kicked over ash tray in the lobby of the Secretarial Building. V.Te went back to the Grand Central Station about 1:45. Our train was to arrive at 3:00 pcm. So to pass the time away we went to the movies in Grand Central. At three o’clock we got on the train. The man that must own Fort Knox by now was selling orange drink and ice cream. At 5:00 p.m. we got in at B ridgeport and started on the short but long ride home. It wasn't a quiet ride but lots of fun. be arrived back at school tired and broke. s VALENTINE PARTY At 1:00 on February 14, In the well decorated audit or i -ji f the eighth grade class took charge of the Valentins Part’ -,. The top sales boy and girl in the magazine drive were announced. The name was picked for the remaining gift0 Top sales girl was Joyce Callahan, top sales boy was Valter Ilaginnis, Bonnie Porter won the remaining prize. Rhythm and Blues songs were the most requested and playedc However, many will remember this dance for the introduction of the waltz by Mr. Mathews, (The floor was crowded.) WASHINGTON TRIP It was a night like all nights except for the ninth grade. They were so excited they didn’t know anything else was going on around them. From 10:30 p m. to 11:00 p.m. they were arriving at school. As the bus was conning down the road, parents started their good-byes. At last we are on our way. The long awaited trip to Washington was here at last0 The ride started out to be a tiny bit noisy, but it soon calmed down so those who wanted to sleep could. We mati two stops on the way down. We arrived in Washington about 7:00 a.m. We went right to breakfast which everybody had been talking about for miles. With everything and everybody back in the bus we started our tour for the first day. We visited the Capitol, U,S, Supreme Court, Library of Congress and Bureau of Printing and Engraving. Everybody was disappointed wnen we didn’t get any souvenirs from the last place we visited. We went to lunch which again nobody wanted to miss. (continued on next page) s WASHINGTON TRIP (continued) After lunch we visited the Washington Monument. After we left there we went to the hotel for a three hour rest before dinner and to change into our clothes for the boat ride down the Potomac River, Back at the hotel that was the only thing the girls could think of. After rest and supper we got aboard the bus for the ride to the boat. We weren't the first to arrive by any means. Once aboard it was everyone for himself in finding a seat. When we reached the island, everybody left the boat to enjoy the amusement park. When the hour was up on the island, surprisingly enough everyone was back on the boat. We arrived back at the hotel about 12:45 a.m. Of course, everybody went right to bed. Breakfast on the second day was at 10:00 a.m. Thank good- ness for the rest. After breakfast we started on the tour of the day. we first visited the White House, Bureau of Archives, National Art Gallery, Smithsonian Institute. After lunch we went back to the hotel to make a change if we wish- ed and to check out. After this we visited Mount Vernon, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We were just in time to see the changing of the guard. Then we visited the Iwo Jima Monument. While we were riding to supper we went to Haines Point where the cherry blossoms are during the first two weeks of April. This little trip seemed to prove interesting, Mr. Garrity and Mr. Slais learned a few points about golf while we were riding past the golf course. After supper we had time to do all the shopping we could handle in one hour. After this we started our night tour. The first place we saw was the Old Glory flying atop the Capitol. Then we visited the Jefferson Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. Our last visit was the National Airport. It was a wonderful and exciting sight to see. Every minute there is a plane landing or taking off from the airport. With everybody back on the bus at about 10:30 p.m. we headed for home. (continued on next page) % s The ride home seemed to be quieter than the ride down. Our group was a little tired and weary by then. V.'e arrived home about 7:45 a,m,, with one eye closed and the other half closed. We would like to thank our conductor, Stevej the two bus drivers, A1 and Henry, Most of all we would like to thank Mrs, Anderson, Hr. Slais, and Mr. Garrity for putting up with us. «• s INTRAMURAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE David Brown's team won the intramural football league champion- ship. He had a record of 4 wins, no loses, and 1 tie.
