To the Class of 1951 HERE is a distinguishing feature about you which no other class will ever have. You are my First graduates at Dobbs! You have been most responsive to a new headmistress, and for this I am grateful. I wish I could hand each of you a staff for the journey ahead, but I cannot. Each of you has to cut out and fashion her own- and its name is Courage. All of us here hope that we have been able from time to time to show you a little about how to make your staff, and how to cling to it day after day. Remember that some day someone will pick up this book, and perhaps, in glancing through it, will look at your picture, and say, 6'What an interesting face. I wonder what she has been doing since leaving Dobbs. Engraved on your face now is the beginning of a book which you shall some day finish, and entitle. My Life, and What I Have Done With It. We hope that in the writing of this book a spirit will be with you-a spirit which Dobbs has tried to give you. This spirit is something that will keep step with you, as you go from chapter to chapter. It has many sides. They are things like diligence, and kindness. These things will all be a part of the staff you must make, the staff called Courage. They will bring you into the field of increased understanding. Good luck, be true and go forward. Donit be solemn before your time. Let your tasks in the busy world be often lightened by your memories of school, and nothing will ever make you grow old. My regret is that I haven't known you longer, and only you can cure that-by coming back to your Alma Mater, to cheer us as we watch you grow in stature and wisdom and in favor with Cod and man.
