Ever smce she had known she was golng they dlscovered that she had lost the precious rmg they had glven her for Chrlstmas It was her first really valuable plece of jewelry It was a very lovely rmg and Margaret knew of several thmfrs that her mother had sacrl Heed 1n order to get lt for her She recalled the proud look on her father s face as he had opened the tmy box After her first moment of unbounded happy surprlse her mother had carefully explamed that the rmg cost a lot of money, and that lf lt were lost she would probably never have another At the tlme Margaret had laughed and told her mother she need not have the slxghtest fear Lose 10 The mere rdea seemed l'ldlCLll01lS Why She would lock It up ex ery sm le nl ht before she vunt to bed and she wouldn t take It off durlng the day She had carrled out her good lntentlons pretty faithfully for the first few weeks but gradually the rmg became more and more an ordmarj possession and one mght not long after she had been late to bed, and just as she had switched off the llght she remembered the rmg It was too late to go back and lock lt up, so she thought Surely lf wlll be safe enough right here by the bed and so saymg she land If on the table besxde the bed The next mght she wasn t late but the bureau seemed a long way off, and It was such a bother to hunt through her bureau drawers for the box The rmg had been safe enough the mght before, why wouldn't It be just as safe thus mme?
