VOCATIONAL Massillon has one of the finest and most complete Vocational courses in the state. The bond levy which was passed last year will provide, in com- ing years, a new and separate builcl- ing for shop and auto mechanics courses. Auto mechanics teaches the funda- mentals of automotive maintenance and upkeep. A complete two year session in the classroom and shop starts many boys off in the auto repair business. Machine shop is a two year course also. Because of the valuable train- ing given the boys in this department, many boys actually have jobs lined up long before graduation. Welding also ranks high in iob placement in many local industries. The sparks fly in room 2 as the boys learn their trade. Page 26

Many of our students begin or continue work in the hobby field in the practical arts department. Here they can work with the drawing board, type and ink, wood, and metal. Mechanical drawing provides the necessary background for drafting and engineering. The printing shop, besides giving training in printing, does a service to the school in providing most printing iobs to other departments in the school. Many parents welcome a new bookcase or end table resulting from a proiect in woodwork- ing. ln general metals many ornamental items for the home begin with a sheet of metal and a cutting shears. Seldom thought of as vocational, the VOCATIONAL domestic arts department is just that, since it receives state aid and federal assistance as well. Home Economics stresses the accepted means of providing a good home for future families. Home decoration, budget planning, and manners are but a few of the topics covered.
