ENGLISH ENGLISH English is the backbone of all education and Washington High has realized it in providing her English courses. Beginning sophomores are offered two choices, college or practical English. Both aspire to help each student improve his listening, speaking, reading and writing ability. Fundamentals of grammer, spell- ing, and pronunciation are emphasized. Oral English gives the student the necessary confidence in appearing before groups of people. Sophomores grumbled when required to read Julius Ceasar but found out it was not too bad after all. Juniors studied literature and Macbeth . Also oral and written composition are stressed in English ll. PAVI. seniors took that long walk in the graduation processional to receive their diplomas. The annual all-night party was held at the Lincoln Theater and the American Legion Hall. Then the seniors came to school the next morning more sleepy than awake for more annual signing. June eighth was the last day for most of us, but not all of us. There were a few who had to look forward to another Monday morning of school as summer school began June eleventh. For those who were seniors these last few days were the last time they will walk through the halls of Wash- ington High School. Even though they may never come back to visit in the physical sense, we hope that this year- book with its many special features will relive many of the pleasant mem- ories that they have had in their high school days.
