With the increased enrollment, the activities and new prob- lems of the school year began. ln this School Life section of the 1956 MASSILLONIAN you will find the school year in pictures, along with a brief description of the maior activities of the year. The 45 rpm phono- graph record, which is a special added feature of the yearbook, will add the new dimension of SOUND to your review of the school year. September was a very busy month for most Wash- ington High stude11ts. There was a dance i11 the boys' gym on the first weekend after the return to school. This dance, which was sponsored by the Annual Board, was one week before the sophomores attend- ed their first big rally in the gym. This rally preceded the first of three September victories for our Tiger football team. Other events of the month included chapels, dances after each football game, and the band festival. The band festival, which was held to raise funds for the band's trip to California, was l1eld on the seventeenth of September at the Amherst Park Shopping Center. A good time was had by the entire city of Massillon. By the end of September, clubs were organized and there were many initiations. Among the more colorful initiations were those of the Choir, Speech, and Dramatic Clubs. Many weeks of practice came to a climax with the annual Prince of Peace contest. Parents had the opportunity to meet the teachers at the high school during the Patron's Reception on the evening of the twenty-sixth of October. The Football Queen was crowned at the homecoming game with Akron Garfield at the stadium. Everyone will remem- ber watching many Tiger victories in the rain as the team continued their undefeated streak until the last game of the season. C, 111111 1.1111 .f
