With this in mind, the Board has worked diligently for many months, and we, the editors, would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the rest of the board and our able advisor, Mrs. Layton. Since the theme of this annual is Music, we hope you will get as much enjoyment leating through its pages as you would listening to a beautiful ballad. Dedication In the eight years of his notable service in Washington High School this person has done many things which give us ample reason for dedicating this annual to him. His office is filled every day by students seeking aid or favors of some sort, and he always responds favorably. During our stay in Washington High, he has acted not only as an advisor but as a friend and sharer of our good times. We are sure that all the present students and graduates alike join the annual staff in saying thanks to our new der. Principal - I. W. Sny 7 '.x X m Tr 1455? UB essiah 1951-52 A CAPELLA CHOIR This year's choir has been one of the most active in the history of the school. Our first concert, under our new director, R. Byron Griest, was given for Patron's Reception. From then on we sang at the Football Banquet, our own assembly, plus Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Senior chapels, Mans- field High School, the three iunior high schools, a public concert at the First Mehodist Church, May Day at the Stadium, and a music Clinic at Fulton High School. We also gave Handel's Messiah and Oscar Strauss's A Waltz Dream . The ensembles and solists entered into a district contest and those winning went to State, while the choir was entered into a choral contest. CState Contest unknown at this printingj. We managed to take time out from the vocal work to enjoy a Messiah Banquet, a pot-luck supper the night of dress rehearsal for the operetta, two parties, and a spaghetti dinner after the operetta. All in all, we feel the year was very well spent. ' 94 This is the first year that a third choir was organized. It meets the first period in the morning under the direction of Mr. Griest. MASSILLON WHIPS MCKINLEY The Massillon Tigers showed their skill in basketball as well as they did in football. They rolled over their rivals the McKinley Bulldogs in a tussel which ended 64--53. The Tigers showed a good deal of improve- ment from their last game with Dayton Wilbur Wright which they also won 49-48 in a hard winning battle. Ace Grooms paced the Tigers in the McKinley game with 'I9 points. MASSILLON TIPS AKRON ST. VINCENT The Massillon Tigers played a whale of a ballgame against Akron St. Vincent. The game ended 62-60 after two over-times. At the start of the game no one believed the Tigers could beat the Irish. Thanks to the spectacular shot of Dick lObieJ Snyder, we won the game. Lazaroff paced the Tigers with 27 points. TIGERS LOST TO STEUBENVILLE The Tigers put up a brilliant defense against Steubenville, losing by 5 points instead of the 20 previously predicted. The game was rough and rather dirty. The lightening fast Bill Rose took scoring honors for Steubenville with ll points. Brenner copped honors for the Tigers with 9 points. DISTRICT TOURNAMENT MASSILLON VICTOR OVER LINCOLN The Tigers drew Canton Lincoln as their first victims in the tourna- ment at the Canton Field House. They did not have too much trouble as they won 55-45. The team and the students had a very high spirit for the game and if kept could go all the way. Boldt was high for Lincoln with l7 points while Grooms was high for Massillon with 23 points. 116 MASSILLON HANDS CENTRAL A 51-41 BEATING The Tigers did not show too much accuracy in shooting from the field. Massillon only potted 21 baskets out of 86 tries far a 24X-4 per cent average. The Central team meshed 16 out of 78 tries for a 20 per cent average so you can see both teams were a little off. The Tigers must improve if they expect to go very far in the tournament. Grooms meshed 19 points for Massillon while Rotummo of Central was high for his team with 12. MASSILLON TOPS MINERVA In the third game which the Tigers played in the tournament they trounced Minerva 52-35 in a big upset. The Tigers were fourth placed but are playing ball like a second place team. By the end of the third quarter the Tigers had the Lions pretty well worn down and Grooms and Khoenle dominated the backboards. The Tiger lads never let up because they were determined on taking the tournament. lt was plain to see that Massillon had a gruelling defense. lt was also Massillon's luck that the Lions were off in their shooting or the score may have been clif- ferent. Groom and lazaroff paced the Tigers with 24 and 17 points respectively. Ralph McCully meshed 17 for the losers. MASSILLON UPSETS LEHMAN, WINS TOURNAMENT The Massillon Tigers proved to be a great tournament team by scoring its second upset of the Tourney. It was determined from the start to take home the bacon and they did iust that by beating Lehman 50-44. The team held Meola, the Lehman shooting ace, to a total of 9 points in this game and the first time he had not scored in double figures. The 6'2 center Frank Moore got called for his fourth foul in the third quarter and therefore had to watch so that he would not commit his fifth foul and this left the baclrboards fairly open. Grooms again paced the Tigers with 16 points while Campel of Lehman potted 18. This win gives Massillon the right to advance to the N.E.O. regional tourney. Recently, we asked several thousand of these owners of ours to help us answer some questions about who they are, what they do and why they chose to invest whatever extra money they had in Republic stock. We wish you Could see all the answers. They would show you that the owners of Republic are, for the most part, average, everyday citizens. They would show you, too, that a lot of these people bought their stock out of savings. Another thing that these answers show is the pride of these people in helping to make a company like Republic possible. They know that it is their money and the money of thousands of others like them that has helped to create American industry, to make millions of well-paying jobs and to enable Americans to live better than most of the nobility in other lands. These are the kind of people who own Republic. We think that they are mighty fine people and we believe you will agree that they deserve from Republic a fair return for the use of their savings.
