BOARD OF EDUCATION As a foundation for enduring world peace and security, the principles enunciated by President Roosevelt in an address to Congress, 'Ianuary 6, 1941, have been generally recognized as essential. These principles, better known as the four freedoms, are: Freedom of speech and expression for individuals and individual nations. Freedom to worship God as one's conscience dictates. Freedom from want, which means economic security for each nation, with a peaceful and healthy existence for its inhabitants. Freedom from fear and security of body and mind from aggression for each nation, incurred by general disarmament and an international police force if necessary. lf we are willing, as citizens ofthe world, to accept our responsibilities, to sincerely and earnestly adherc to these principles, we will be helping our nation to reach the desired goal of a post-war settle- ment which will lead to liberty and justice for all. In our world at the present time, we are clos- ing the book of one epoch and starting to turn the pages of another. The Four Freedoms do not constitute a vision of a distant millenium - rather a delinite basis for a kind of world attainable in our own time and generation.
