QGPQEMQ3? SENIOR POWERS Age shall not be a barrier when experience teaches all so move over you Spring children here come we Citizens of Fall! Customs no longer will dictate when we should gracefully with- draw, we firmly won't retire from life because of a sixty-five flaw! Dignity always, our banner we gather to proclaim our right to question a society or why our budgets are so tight! Peaceful people we always are look at us, you need not cower just be aware - anticipate - onward marches Senior Power! By June Chamillard The above poem was inspired by the Senior Seminar, spon- sored by the Women's Center, with Charles Niles, eighty-three years young, as the guest speak- er. Mr. Niles graduated last Spring from Suffolk University and is involved with the rights and equality of all Senior Citizens. Mr. Niles spoke on the topic of The Fences That Senior Citizens Build Around Themselvesu. The Battle To Be There are times when all seems lost but you will smile at any cost nod your head when the answer is no there are cobwebs but you will let them,go and There are times when all seems won but you still feel your dreams aren't done and you begin to think that you were cheated somehow the winner becomes the defeated and There are times when you don't lose or win but simply try to make the out an in you will tilt your head l ONWARD BUT UPWARD When I was six I dreamed I could fly At ten I dreamed when At fourteen I dreamed of war And when eighteen I dreamed of love and peace Now twenty four, I dream no more J.P. so that you can see who keeps the score in this battle to beC.B. THIS MAN Hollowed eyes within black rings, skin so shallow it slopes within structures strong, but weakness there old but young, afraid to care scrolls and stories prevade his mind Loss of self, in Search of find no sense of being, no path, no time . . . SPEAK I spoke of ambition. You spoke of success. Together we spoke of Wisdom I spoke of war. You spoke of peace. Together we spoke of Sadness. I spoke of death. You spoke of Life. Together we spoke of Etemity. Gene Cushing
