The first graduating class of Massasoit Community College, undertakes to dedicate herein the first year- book in the history of the college. The responsibility for activation, administration, and daily direction of a new school is indeed a challenge. The challenge has been met admirably, and it is with sincere pleasure that the Class of 1968 dedicates its yearbook, The Legendf' to you, Dr. Musselman.

There arose the idea 'bf .aflow-cost, two-year, state-supported institution. By the early l- -l960's, the Community-College became more than an idea to the 1 '1 X .pf Brockton community. After due consideration. the bill was passed in December' l965 and a college was to be built in Brockton. g ln March, Dean Melody moved into temporary quarters at'the Sprague School in Brockton. He was without a phone, a desk, and a staff, but before long he was busy with the task of accepting the stu- dents that were to comprise the college's first graduating class. The faculty was appointed and Massasoit, under the direction of Presi- dent John W. Musselman, moved to another temporary home in the Charles Frolio School in Abington. T ln September of l966, when the college opened for its first semes- ter, 723 students enrolled as freshmen and there were 46 professors. Dean Melody became the Dean of Faculty and Dean Simmons be- came the Dean of Students. The social activities of the college have grown also. Early in the fall of I966 an election for the Student Council members was held. Those originalimembers of the council drew up the Constitution, the Student Handbook and planned the activities of the coming year.
