Wlorking together with tl1e advisers, this yearis staff finally achieved their goal, a successful yearbook. Before the individual sections could begin to take form, however, a theme had to be chosen. The editors and staff considered many suggestions, from cowboys to spacemen, and finally chose 'GCarni- valf' Then they were ready to attack the rest of SACHEM, 1960. The senior editors had over .100 separate prob- F' lems. This year's Senior Class was tl1e largest Mas- sapequa has ever seen and required many hours of extra work. The activities editors had their problems also. How often they searched the school asking, W'ho's the boy wearing the plaid shirt, standing in the third row of this picture?,, Yes, tl1e identification of pictures and the composing of write-ups kept these editors busy. Sports., the final section of the yearbook, con- tributed its share of problems. How lo take spring and winter sports' pictures early in December oc- cupied the time of both the girls' and boys' sports editors. Money, money, money! That is what worried the advertising editor and business managers. These eager workers busily hunted down patrons and ad- vertisers to balance the SAIIHEIVI budget. Ken Lamport and Valerie Furst, the eo-editors, assumed the major responsibility for assembling the various parts of the yearbook. They, too, had their problem of keeping one step ahead of the deadlines. ln the end, however, we see that SACHEM is more than a mere collection of pictures. It is a permanent history of a year at Massapequa High, an unforgettable year, filled with memories ol' thc experiences and companions of high school life, as well as hopes and dreams for the future. Iloxs bpurts Lolcl All this would not have been possible, however. without thc expert guidance of Miss Bouton. Four classes before us have thanked this staunch trouper and adviser for her devotion and inspira- tion. Since this is Miss Bouton's final year as SACHEM adviser, the staff of SACHENI 1960 would add their special plaudits for hcr untiring efforts and constant encouragement. Each SACHEM staff, in the years which follow, will continue to owe Miss Bouton a debt of gratitude, for SACHEM first came to be under her vigilant direction and guidance. As the calliope gives forth its musical sounds and the carnival lights flicker, the SACHENI staff once more expresses their sincere gratitude to Vliss Boutou.
