W achsmuth UR Varsity Baseball Team enjoyed another successful season. This year's team kept up the tradition of great baseball teams from Nlassapequa. The pitching staff was led by the rc- turning veterans Roy Wllgner, Tony Anlbrosio, and Russ Meyer. ln the hitting department Al Tobia, ,lack Ruhs, and Roy Wagner lcd the seniors while Skip Ajello and Tom Ruden were thc- out- standing juniors. Prospects for next year's team, with the return of' Skip Ajello, Tom Ruden, Bill Molloy, Ed Shaar, and Frank Albin, look favor- J. V. Ba eball able. NE of the basic reasons for the excellent Varsity Baseball Teams which Massapequa High School produces is the supe- rior training the players receive on the Freshman and .l. V. Teams. This year's Varsity was aided greatly by the abilities of Skip Ajello, Tom Ruden, and Frank Albin from last year's J. V. Team. Our J. V. Mr. Pluschan EIGHT, ball handling, agility, and speed were all contribut- ing factors in another winning season for the hoopsters. Senior Co-Captains Doug Claysher and Don Olesen did a fine job in pacing the Chiefs all year long. Claysher worked well underneath, getting tap-ins and rebounds, while Olesen worked around the keyhole. The main difficulty this year seemed to be the lack of consistency. The unpredictable Chiefsf' as they were called by Newsday, ran hot and cold all year. A recent innovation in the South Shore Athletic League aided the club. With this new rule a coach may shuffle his players according to ability between varsity and junior varsity levels. This feature also aids in maintaining a seasoned, experienced club from year to year. This year many juniors saw quite a bit of action due to varying circumstances. Because ol' this action, next year's club should have another winning season.

Mr. Finger HE golf team had a successful season in 1960 despite the loss of such outstanding golfers as Vincent Gilroy, Richard Mc- Kiernan, and Bill Wilson in 1959. Russ ,lohnson was the only returning first stringer for the team. With Bob Calhoun, Vic Meyers, and Doug Glaysher to help, Johnson led the team to another season of decisive victories. HE Varsity Tennis Team had an unsuccessful season this year, since the loss of six out of the seven starting players on last year's lineup proved to he too great a loss to overcome. The final record, though, does not tell the entire story. Powers such as Baldwin, Lawrence, and Uniondale defeated the Chiefs by close 3-2 scores. The adept playing of ,lules Solnick, Marty Fox, and Bill Mindlin in the singles, and Bill Nichols, Dennis Oleck, Ken Young, and Dick Goodman in the doubles, provided the bulk ofthe wins this year.
