The Propeller Club made unprecedented accomplishments during the 1986-1987 school year. The greatest show of spirit came with the raising of money for the Statue of Liberty restoration and rededication ceremony held on July 4, 1986. The two year project of fundraising gave the Mass. Maritime Academy Propeller Club the distinction of raising more money for the project than any other school in the Nation. Club President Scott Corsano along with club officers John Babineau, Tom Trefny, Arthur Lonergan and James Mclnnis accepted on behalf of the Propeller Club a check for $5,000.00 to be applied towards scholarships for their outstanding work on the Liberty project. During the busy year the Club sponsored a lecture on the Andrea Doria Stockholm disaster given by speaker John Carrothers. The monthly Port of Boston Propeller Club dinners were also attended by club members on a regular basis. The Propeller Club has set new goals for the next couple of years, a memorial is being planned for the area just outside the Chapel. The memorial is planned to stand in the memory of all Merchant Mariners past and present. Fund raising has already begun and will continue until enough funding is available to begin building the memorial. This will be a landmark that all people may enjoy, especially Alumni.

The Society of Na al Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) is an internationalK ' recognized non-profit, technical, professional Society of individnal nienihers serx ing the maritime and offshore industry and its supphers. SNAME is dedicated to advancing the jart, science and practice of naval architecture, shipbuilding and marine engineer ing, encouraging the exchange and recording of information, sponsoring applied research, offering career guidance and supporting education, and enhancing the professional status and integrity of its membership. Activities this year included a trip to New York City to attend the National SNAME exposition of the new and up-and-coming modern advances in the Maritime field. The student section at Mass Maritime Academy also started the Annual North East Student section dinner meeting which included participation by Maine Maritime, Kings Point, M.I.T. , and Coast Chiard. Speaker for that evening was Captain Robert Bowen, Master of the Research Vessel Knorr, which found the wreck of the Titanic. Overall, the year was very exciting for all involved, and will continue to be so in upcoming years.
