MASSACHUSETTS 02532-1803 Board ol Regonls of Higher Education TO THE CLASS OF 1984 Four sometimes hectic and difficult years have now passed and the graduates of the Class of 1984 stand at the threshold of life. That life, that career, that future will most certainly be enhanced by way of the personal qualities that each and every one of you have acquired by way of hard work and perseverance. You and I are particularly cognizant of the sweat equity - the toil and the tears associated with the years past. In spite of their difficulty, those years and the lessons learned will serve you well! There really isn ' t a task that any one of you will now hesitate taking on. The challenges of life will be eagerly accepted and the usual pride associated with your Buccaneer background will enable you to rise steadily to the top, whatever your station in life. The good memories of MMA will be lasting and your classmates will be friends forever, a literal professional and social resource in time of need. The close unit you represented collectively as a class will never really disintegrate, but moreover will be strengthened and revisited in the years ahead. Life Is always, of course, what you make of it. As a graduate of the Academy you now possess many tools to make your life a resounding success. You enjoy the resiliency to adjust, the gritty perseverance to stick it out, and the intellec- tual capacity to sort it out! Getting along with others is an early Academy lesson well learned, and I am sure you will a-ply this advantage to its fullest extent as you sail the world ' s oceans and ply your way down life ' s varied path. As you embark on the career you have chosen and scatter to the four corners of the world, you will carry with you valuable Massachusetts Maritime Academy credentials. Your Alma Mater will be anxiously and proudly watching you climb the ladder of success. In doing so, you will negotiate all of the rungs based on your courage, determination, and ability. I urge you to be observant, learn from others along the way, and retain pride in all of your undertakings. The doing of one ' s duty, even though it sometimes may seem commonplace, embodies the highest ideals of life and good character. Remember as well that additional knowledge will always be advantageious to you throughout your life - subscribe to acquiring all that you possibly can!
