NDAUNTED by the hours of work he does for the sake of pure science and education, the student, in his free hours, turns to activities outside the classroom. He governs himself, he enters into the work of publication, he rehearses by the hour in order to present dramatics and musical productions, and he enters into dozens of societies devoted to various pursuits. This section of the book is devoted to those organizations concerned with the government of the student body, the dramatic groups, the Technology Christian Association and the miscellaneous organizations which do not yield themselves to any particular classification. A chart which has been prepared to show the undergraduate organiza- tions at ‘Technology reveals a staggering array of bodies which take up the time and attention of the student, and to which he is willing to give much effort. At first, the network of lines conceals more than it reveals, but careful perusal will yield the major data. The organizations are so knit together that the group is quite efficient and well integrated. The M.I.T. Undergraduate Association is the title of the student body when acting in extra-curricular affairs. Governing this body is the Institute Committee, which is in complete charge of all things pertaining to student activity. Stemming from the parent body are many standing committees, the more important of which are discussed at length in the pages of this section. Six major divisions of the organizations exist, and entire sections of this book are devoted to some of them. First comes the M.I.T. Athletic Association, which is in control of all the sports and their administration. The next major group is the Publications, which are grouped together because of their nature, although there is no single administration control- ling the group. Four musical clubs, under the Combined Musical Clubs form the musical group. Unique in its character is the Technology Christian Association, which performs a multitude of services which are offered by no other body. Fifth, we find the dramatic organizations: Tech Show, which presents one play a year, and the Dramashop, which presents productions throughout the year. In the miscellaneous group are placed the professional societies, the honor- ary societies, and all the other groups which defy classification. The picture thus presented is one of a thriving group of student activities, banded together so as to secure for all the benefits of unified effort. 150
