CLASS HISTORY A few had prepped, some had seen wars, some married. But most were former high school seniors now standing in front of yellow brick buildings. Each knew that — somehow — it would no longer be the same. We barely knew the names of these build- ings but we still entered and ended our vacation with Orientation. Pizza crisp, but cold Sufficiently told Us all ' beware ' Of upper class stare. To the jazz, we were green But loved the Frosh queen Who led at picnic and dance. CLASS OF ' 60, ADVANCE! The hectic thing called registration had ended and, on Monday morning, we all filed into what were called classes . Again they were going to be different — harder, yes. But, still it was going to be something new. Mr. Pierce and History Soc and Mr. McNulty; From Dr. S. we had science Being aware of the Freudian alliance; Dr. K. told us personal panacea And in lab we tickled amoeba; Miss Toole excavated the bard And construction in our back-yard Miss Lanoue ' s grin And M U ' s bathtub gin. But all we learned was not from the classroom. There were trips to the training school, Marks, to watch people who were what we were suppose to become. Hair all disheveled, Teacher, half leveled. A book opened and read Supporting a leaning head. Two o ' clock heat. Classes all beat. No more assignments, Teacher needs alignments. Then, too, the summers came. We all left — unwillingly at first — to homes or sum- mer employment. New friends made, experiences stored up, we knew when Labor Day came that the summer was a memory. But a memory to be shared. Yiddish beer at Avalock, Provolone at the Cape. Divine Sarah at the Music Barn, Summer at Camp Yawn-on-Yarn. Construction built mills, continued page 65 28
