VOX ANN! I960 ' VOICE OF THE YEARS FOREWORD Four years ago, we, the Class of 1960, entered this school and carried on a daily round of activities in our old building . Today, as Seniors, we have been fortunate enough to see a new addition to our campus grow from a dream to a reality before our eyes. It has become a part of us. We have been able to work as well as play in the building as it has become a part of our school — our N. A. S. T. C. Vox Anni I960 presents for you in picture a record of the old as well as the new. Enclosed within these two covers is a record of the events which will make up your college memories. DEDICATION The Class of 1960 proudly, dedicates Vox Anni 1960 to Margaret M. Lanoue. As our class advisor, she received us as timid Freshmen. The climb to Seniors has not been an easy one but she has seen us through. She has guided us, corrected us, counselled us, and encouraged us. Now that our goal is in sight, we pause to say THANK YOU, MISS LANOUE, FOR YOUR PATIENCE, YOUR GUIDANCE, AND YOUR KINDNESS. THE FACULTY BEHIND US KNOWLEDGE EUGENE L FREEL President t t ! t z )tfuwtmen6 w (bcuuxi i n STATE TEACHERS COLLEGE AT NORTH ADAMS To the Class of I960: The past year at the College has been both trying and momentous. The severe difficulties encountered as the result of the renovations during the first semester were admirably taken in stride by everyone, and this did much to alleviate the situation. The opening of our greatly expanded plant has been a real accomplishment and one that will always be closely associated with your class. The initiation of the new science program will also be a lasting memory for you. Thus, for the College the year has been truly momentous. Tou go now to carve out your future lives. I know that you will succeed, and 1 hope that you will always keep before you the goals and beliefs of your profession. 1 hope, too, that you will return to visit as often as you can. May God bless you and your work. Sincerely yours, %e£- President ELPtR THE FACULTY FREDERICK K. BRESSETTE ■J LOUIS S. CUCCINELLO KENNETH O. DAVIS THOMAS F. DUFFY ANDREW S. FLAGG GEORGE H. But most were former high school seniors now standing in front of yellow brick buildings. Each knew that — somehow — it would no longer be the same. We barely knew the names of these build- ings but we still entered and ended our vacation with Orientation. Pizza crisp, but cold Sufficiently told Us all ' beware ' Of upper class stare. To the jazz, we were green But loved the Frosh queen Who led at picnic and dance. CLASS OF ' 60, ADVANCE! The hectic thing called registration had ended and, on Monday morning, we all filed into what were called classes . Again they were going to be different — harder, yes. But, still it was going to be something new. Mr. Pierce and History Soc and Mr. McNulty; From Dr. S. we had science Being aware of the Freudian alliance; Dr. K. told us personal panacea And in lab we tickled amoeba; Miss Toole excavated the bard And construction in our back-yard Miss Lanoue ' s grin And M U ' s bathtub gin. But all we learned was not from the classroom. There were trips to the training school, Marks, to watch people who were what we were suppose to become. Hair all disheveled, Teacher, half leveled. A book opened and read Supporting a leaning head. Two o ' clock heat. Classes all beat. No more assignments, Teacher needs alignments. Then, too, the summers came. We all left — unwillingly at first — to homes or sum- mer employment. New friends made, experiences stored up, we knew when Labor Day came that the summer was a memory. But a memory to be shared. Yiddish beer at Avalock, Provolone at the Cape. Divine Sarah at the Music Barn, Summer at Camp Yawn-on-Yarn. EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER We, the members of the Senior Class, would like to sincerely thank Mr. Theodore Toporowski for the time and energies he has put into taking photographs for Vox Anni. We appreciate all you have done for us. CAND DS CLASS HISTORY, Continued Restaurants broke wills. Thus returned the clan, Varnished with a tan. College clubs and social life broke tedium while providing — besides rest or amuse- ment — a frequent chance at knowledge. In some ways. Harlequin ' s Hasty Heart With Mortarboard ' s art And remarks so sage (Spoken in rage) At Current Events. C.A. and N.C. taught respect Even at the Science circumspect. Of basketball we had a great deal, But no match to our start-a-dance zeal. The Senior year had many firsts for us. Front lawn assembly — training school — Dr. K., our guiding light — new building — the first faculty play — dawned the little theater — musicals in the Scottish vein — Superintendent ' s Day — Death Jakes a Holiday — and Parents ' Day. Cap and Gown Day — Final weekend and many other activities which led us closer and closer to Graduation. Now it was here The Senior Year. Haughtily we returned to find Other things in mind. Just three years back We had ventured the Freshmen track And said, Oh, to be a Senior. And Now it was here Life is a series of Freshmen plateaus, we discovered You ' re always a Freshman in a sense — undiscovered Entering a new idea, a new way Every minute of every day And we hope it will always stay that way. And now we stand as scholars Cap, gown and hood in one hand. In the other, we hold memories. Bernard J. Lepine Paula T. Bousquet 65 STUDENT SEN LOIS B.
