He has taught us physical science, and our mathematics too Causing many sleepless nights and days so blue. Through the wisdom of his teaching we learned these words so well Huristic thinking, heliocentric longtitude. We will always love our Johnny, the advisor of our class. Though through these hallowed portals we must pass. We raise our voices in praise of thee, Dear Dr. John. In pride, in joy, in solemnity, Dear Dr. John. Always a fighter from first to last--he'll never be forgotten by his class. Therefore, we write this book en masse to our Dr. John. vxxw - x MX , f 6? Q ggb 4 C S5 xqsj? f f GS . ' ffx V RD DTFQQGN Q Clif 1 404,90 With the athletic program at North Adams comparatively limited, it has been an unavoidable necessity to put all our eggs in one basket, figurative- ly speaking, and devote our energies to supporting our one intercollegiate athletic activity, basketball. Basketball at North Adams still in comparative infancy since it dates back only to 1945, has had its feast and famine since that year. Actually, in our four years on the hill it has been a case 'of playing to keep the sport alive and pointing toward the day when our college' will increase in size and have a larger pool of athletes from which to draw. With limited manpower, and playing our annual schedule against schools four, five and six times our size, it has been a rocky four years but not one tinged with shame by any means. For it has been a happy faculty of the Profs to give every team they've met a good run for their money. With a few exceptions, no team has walked off without knowing they've been in a game. A bright spot in our four year term of service was the 1952-53 team, which had a creditable season and was able to win ten of its games. Four-year members of the team are co-captains George Jarck and Edward Lawton and senior lettennan Red Helfrich. Jarck and Helfrich played from '51 thru '55, while Lawton entered in '49, played on North Adam's only New Eng- land Conference Champions that year, played thru '51, then after two years in the service, returned to play from '53 thru '55, The outstanding achievement during the four year period was the scoring record of better than 1000 points over that time set by George Jarck who proved to be one of the better players in the New England Conference and a figure who will last long in the athletic annals of N.A.S.T.C. As athletics have become an integral part of the collegiate programs throughout the nation, it is the sincere wish of the grad ation class that basketball and possibly other athletics will grow and thrive cannensurately with the planned expansion in the future of our school. - CIDMUUATING SENI NIEV CEIFGE JAHCK CCELCAPTAHVJ EDMMTJLAWPUW UIJLMGWAINJ BED lH1iTHCH 6 , . -4- 'i 4 , -1, V Y L Pi! 1 III gli L I L 'I Ill- LA 'fail FL n ufq n '.
