GREENYEARS - 1971 1 2 Massachusetts Bay Community College was founded in 1961 with the purpose of providing an inexpensive, diversified education for the entire community. Classes first met in a renovated building at 27 Garrison St. in Boston with a total enrollment of 419 students and 25 staff members. Five of these twenty-five continue to play an important part of Mass. Bay. They are President John F. McKenzie, Marilyn Goldthwait, assistant to the presi- dent, Dr. Carlo Vacca, Assistant Chairman for Languages, Division of Human- itiesg Professor George Rogers who teaches psychology, and Professor An- thony R. Carbone, Chairman, Division of Business Administration. ln September of 1965 half of the student body moved to Watertown High School while awaiting the renovation of our present 'fMass Bay , which was formerly a Raytheon executive office building. The following year the Boston Campus was closed and the entire college moved to the Gore Campus. Relocatable classrooms were under construction and were finished, after building delays, in the summer of 1967. By September 1967, the college was functioning as we know it today. December, 1967, Massachusetts Bay Community College became accredited by the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Member- ship is maintained in the American Association of Junior Colleges. Today MBCC has developed into an institution fulfilling many needs of the wider community with day, evening, and summer divisions. Katherine Thompson, Literary Editor
