I In September Community College These people were College has dared to be different in many 1961, the very first class entered Massachusetts Bay' with a brand new administration, faculty and staff. to help pioneer a new and unique kind of College. Our respects and has quickly Q established a reputation for excellence along with the development of new and vital areas. The results of one of our proudest inovations, namely our SEE Program, follow in this tradition. ln early l964, the College was faced outright a large number of applicants who to benefit from a college education. The space. Recognizing its obligation to the with the prospect of rejecting appeared to have a good chance reason was simply a lack of Community to devote its full energy and resources in providing educational opportunities for the area it serves, the College turned its attention to various ways of beating the Hlack-of-seatsn problem. A plan was devised whereby a certain number of applicants could be accepted as Degree Candidates by beginning their course work in the Summer Session and following it with one semester in the Evening Division. V0wing to the normal rate of withdrawals and dismissals after the first semester in the Day School, a sufficient number of spaces could be assured so that students under this plan could begin their second semester of their freshmen year in February and proceed ' normally to graduation with their class in the Day Division. Because the Summer and Evening Divisions represented the first steps for this group, the program was given the name of nSummer-Evening Entrancen or SEE program. And so, the College welcomes a new group of pioneers, the SEE students entering the Day Division. They have passed their first big test and they can be sure of a warm welcome from the entire family of Massachusetts Bay Community College. Sincerelyoyours, Kenneth WL Hagers rom Dean of Men
