Sentinel Dedicates 1988 Edition To Social Studies Instructor Bob Lingle The 1988 edition of the Sentinel is proudly dedicated to MCHS Social Studies instructor Bob Lingle. who has served the youth of the Metropolis community for the past 24 years. Mr. Lingle graduated from Metropolis High School and attended Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. Following his four years at Asbury. he attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and completed a Master of Science degree while leaching on the secondary level. After one year at Unity Grade School. Mr. Lingle spent the next 23 years at Metropolis High School and Massac County High School. During his tenure in secondary teaching he has taught Government. American History. World History. Consumer Education. Psychology. Sociology. English, and Reading. In addition to his teaching duties, he has served as Sports Editor of the Metropolis Planet for over 20 years and has been an MCHS assistant track coach since 1980. For the past ten years he has also worked as a high school basketball official scorekeeper. Mr. Lingle and his wife. Barbara, a Unit One elementary school teacher, have a daughter. Benita. and a son. Bart. Mr. Lingle's hobbies include an interest in all sports, general trivia, and collecting baseball cards. He also enjoys reading a variety of subjects, but primarily history, sports, and historical fiction. In recent years he has devoted time and energy to w riting a history of sports in the local high schools. The students, faculty, and citizens of Massac Unit One extend our thanks to Mr. Lingle for his contributions to education as well as to journalism and wish him continued success in his future.
