A high school is the students who each day put life into the building ... it is the teachers who put knowledge into students ... it is the administrators who co-ordinote activities of both students ond teachers into o smooth functioning institution. Above oil these material considerations, however, o high school is o bonding together of that intangible spirit of pride ond dedication which sets it apart from oil other government agencies, public ond private. Our high school yearbook, the Sentinel, maintains the responsibility of recording the year's events of high school life, both social ond academic. Dy virtue of its very name (the word sentinel'' means one who watches or guards ) our yearbook attempts to record for posterity the espirir de corps found within the walls of Mossoc County High School. Uli-liLLllr The MCH5 Patriots and Head Coach Mike Cougill topped off a perfect Homecoming 1982 with o rousing 46-12 triumph over the Cairo Pilots on October 22. Turning in their best performance of the season, the Patriots ployed with enthusiasm and wreckless abandon before the large Homecoming crowd os Patriot senior players, participating in their final gome, gave on all-out effort in burying the Pilots. The Sentinel solutes the Patriots for their exciting victory. LliO.LclltjLlzt The 1983 Senrinel yearbook proudly solutes Elizabeth Beardsley who retired this post May after o career in education spanning thirty-seven years. During her distinguished career, Mrs. Beardsley taught high school mathematics. She taught in the Metropolis school system for thirty-one years after moving back to Metropolis from Northern Illinois, where she hod fought six years. Mrs. Beardsley received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois and her Master of Science from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. A dedicated professional, Mrs. Beardsley maintained the highest of principles in educating the student. She believed in the individual ability of each student who entered her classroom and gave of herself and her rime to oil students. Her reaching career has nor ended entirely, however.
