In addition to in- itiating the girls' athletic program or Metropolis High School, Ms. Anderson has fought oil levels of physical education and has coached basketball, volleyball, and girls' and boys' tennis. For ten years she taught freshman and sophomore English ond physiology. She served os dual sponsor for the cheerleoding squads ond the Pep Club for 29 years, ond was sponsor of the junior doss for o number of years. Ms. Anderson received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University ond her Master of Arts from Murray State. As o retired teacher she hopes to lead on active life traveling, ploy- ing tennis ond improving her golf gome. Don McQueen concludes o teaching career spanning thirty- two years in the Metropolis school system where he has taught oil fields of Industrial Arts except welding. He ond his wife, Betty, reside in Metropolis. Mr. McQueen received his Bachelor of Science ond Master of Science degrees from Southern Il- linois University. In addition to o distinguished academic career he served o term during World War II in the Army Air Corps. When asked his plans for retire- ment, Mr. McQueen stored he will lead o busy life driving o school bus, perfecting his golf, ond work- ing in his wood-working shop where he constructs furniture for his three children ond five grandchildren. Faculty Members and liead Ccck Mary Marquess Mary Krueger i Mary Helen Marquess retires with 23 years of toral reaching ex- perience. During her career she has taught or Golconda High School for two years. Norris City High School for one year, Brookporr High School for eigh- teen years and Massac County High for o single year. She and her husband, Carl, reside in Poducoh. Ms. Marquess is o Murray Store graduate where she received her Bachelor of Science degree. In ad- dition to teaching physical educa- tion at Brookporf High School, she served os cheerleading sponsor and yearbook advisor for two years. Ms. Marquess has also taught Home Economics, Beading, a Title 1 course, Consumer Educa- tion, ond Health and Safety during a distinguished career. Her hob- bies include waferskiing and boating. Mary Krueger's retirement at the conclusion of the 1981-82 academic year marks her tenth year of service in the Metropolis school system. During that time she served as Assistant Cook prior to her appointment os Head Cook on the high school level. Ms. Krueger ond her husband, Melvin, live at Route 3, Metropolis. They lead active lives entertaining their four children and two grandchildren. Ms. Krueger's hobbies include collecting cookbooks and gardening. She also stated that she enjoys work- ing with people, particularly children. school footboll contest ever or the old Dever Field. Though rhe Porriors lost rhe gome. 14-8. exciting was the key description for the match. The Patriots' offensive ond defensive squods ployed one of their best gomes of rhe season in the closely knit contest. The Patriots ployed the entire gome without having o single punt. Senior clossmotes grouped together to creore pyromids, gother on srotues, ond just hove fun. The mojorlty of the doss orrended rhe picture toking festivities ond everyone hod o greot rime. The Lady Patriots reached the summit of high school bosketboll in the state with o second ploce finish in the state finals or Champaign. The Lady Patriots finished the season with 21 victories against 5 losses. High point players were Senior Joycelyn Bradford with 17.6 points per game; Senior Carol Bremer with 21.8 points per game.- Junior Kathy Bradford with 8.9; Carol Bremer Junior Carol Burton, 7.6 points per gome; ond Senior Karen Anderson, 7.3 points per gome. The offense averaged 57.7 points per gome. On defense, top rebounders were Carol Bremer with 10.4 rebounds per gome; Joycelyn Bradford, 10.3 re- bounds; ond Korhy Bradford, 6.2 re- bounds. The Junior Varsity squad won first place ribbons in creativity, grand en- trance and exit, routine double stunts and style. The JV squad won rhe first place trophy in the JV division. The Varsity Squad won first place ribbons in inspection, sparkle and shine, grand entrance, and jumps. The squad won one of two spirit sticks and was rhe tournament winner of rhe Grand Championship trophy pictured at left.
