Ill. iFOvertime BASKETBALL AIR. AND MRS. ROY BUCHAUS The Masonic High basketball team started the season off well by defeating Henry Cen- tral. The team was a hot and cold team, play- ing some of the best schools in and around Louisville. Some of our opponents were Male. Manual. Fern Creek. and Oldham County. The team cannot be judged by its record, but by h-ow it fought down to the wire in all the games. That the boys played good team ball on the floor can be told by the score book, as the scoring was always even and well dis- tributed among the players. Here at Masonic we think we have one of the best coaches in the state. He taught the team a lot and stressed team play. We wish him all the luck in the world in years to come. We want to thank the alumni for their sup- port and for the jackets for the team, In our annual game with the alumni. we were the winners by a score of 57-41. Masonic High was runner-up in the Twenty- ninth District and received a beautiful trophy. We lost to Carrollton in the first round of the Eighth Regional Tournament.-Jack Shelton. Bennie King. only a sophomore. played some very fine ball this year. Bennie plans to play football next year at Eastern High and to drop basketball, We are hoping that he will change his mind and play basketball also. King was a good reserve. Emmett Greer started the season on thc bench, but before the season was over, he had worked himself up to the first team. Although Greer scored but thirty-four points, he was a good rebounder. Only a sophomore. Greer was a good team player. Adrian Dickison. who was just a freshman this season. showed every possibility for 'i good player next season at Eastern High. Starting the season as a junior-varsity player. Adrian had worked his way up to the first ten players by tournament time. He didn't see too much action in the tourneys because of lack of experience. Bennie Rogers, who held high point honors for the team this year. with 274. was also a good defensive man. Rogers, the team's cap- tain, was the main factor in the team's reach- ing the regional tournament. We are sure Bennie, who is a senior. will do very well in college next year. Harold Dean Ramage. one of the youngest boys on the varsity team. ended the season with 105 points to his credit. A sophomore and a good player. Ramage was held back this year by lack of experience. but we are sure that he will do very well at Eastern High next year. Robert Barker, a six-foot senior, is the third tallest player on our team. He did not get many points, but we could always depend on Robert for a good defensive game. He had to miss a lot of practice because of high blood pressure. Robert scored twenty-eight points for the season. Only a sophomore. Edward Shackelford scored 160 points and was a constant threat to the opposition. Whitey missed two games because of an ear injury received in practice. He should play lots of ball next year at Eastern. William Clay. a 5'8 senior. made a fine showing for himself this year. Although Bill got but thirteen points. we could depend on him for some very fine ball handling. and he was a good set-up man for our plays. Jack Shelton. the only junior on the squad. played the whole season on the first five and scored 227 points. Shelton was an all-around man, starting the season as forward. later switching to guard. and sometimes playing center. Eastern High will have a good player in Shelton next year. Randall Harper. the tallest boy on the team. ended the season with a total of 229 points. good for second place scoring honors. One of the four seniors on the team. Harper has great ossibilities of becoming a good college player.
