He visits the school often to instruct them. This year he planned u visit to the Engine Company No. 17 where they met the men in training in a firemen's school. They saw demonstrations of how to scale a building and how to rescue persons from a burning building. ART HOME ECONOMICS Home economies is interesting to most girls because of its practical use. No matter what field they choose after graduation. home economics helps them in their appearance and personality. The units we have studied this year are Dating, Marriage, Getting Along with Others. Foods. and Clothing, Their favorite is Clothing because they can have more clothes for less money if they can sew. The girls also gain experi- ence and poise in serving various banquets and teas. It is all enjoyable because we learn by working together. Mrs. Williams. WO OD WOR K Our industrial arts department be- gan the year with new equipment and a new instructor. Mr. Roy Buchaus. Nine boys took advantage ot the opportunity to learn wood- work. As a reward for their work in this department. they have. not only the knowledge they acquired. but the articles they made. They may keep or sell the end tables. wall shelves. gavels, cedar chests. or other articles they completed. The truest torin of art is that of self-expression. In our art study we have inuch fun painting. modeling, carving, and drawing. All of these are mediums by which we throw oft' all our inhibitions and truly express ourselves. All men would be happier if, during their years ot' growing up. they had learned to see beauty in nature, to feel the rhythms ot' their own deep breathing, to hear the song the footsteps sing, to know they are not just men who walk. but they are part ot' a great pattern-a pattern started with the Great Creator. Richard Jackson.
