On Friday, May 19, a change could be seen in the stu- dent body at Mason High School. Besides the usual spring fever in the air, there was an abundance of ner- vous energy. The faculty allowed the standard of dis- cipline to drop somewhat, because they knew it was Western Day. Everyone arrived Friday morning in the parking lot, maybe a little more tired than normal, attired in their oldest and most worn-out clothes, in eager anticipation of the forthcoming events, All of the academic classes were held in the morning. After an assembly in the auditorium, where honor roll certificates, perfect attendance certificates, and achievement awards were presented, the student body and faculty boarded buses. They were taken to the Mason County Fairgrounds, where everyone enjoyed a barbeque chicken lunch served by the student council. Wes tern Day-Lots The Sophomores seem to be mad about something. of Fun and Games in- r' lohnna Bierschwale discovers that this is the only way to travel. ,Y ps. ' -fi +....,, ff- The real fun began following the lunch! The four classes, Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, participated in games trying to come out the victor. Although the faculty only participated in one event, the egg toss, they were provided with a chance to see the abilities of their students that they were never able to see in the classrooms. Among the many games were the egg toss, the balloon stomp, the ice cream eating contest, the spoon race, the three-legged race, the wheel-barrow race, and the all-power- ful tug-of-war. When the time came to board the buses and go back to school, the Seniors were tied with the Sophomores for first, the juniors were second, and the Freshmen were third. Besides providing a change in the schedule, Western Day was enjoyed by all, and goes to show that there's a little bit of a kid in all of us. The Sophomore girls don't seem to be getting anywhere. Looks like these four didn't get enough barbequed chicken. The spoon race takes loose clothes, long strings, and a little luck. 29
