Here already was 1948, the half-way mark in our struggle for 'Stardom. Norma Caraway, Carol Crandell, Mervyn Crandell, Ruberta Drake, Patricia Fairbotham, Donna Hill, Barbara Dedafoe, Lyle Newman, Lyle Snider, and Larry Somerville joined our company in show business. By the eighth grade things were booming along with tremendous speed. Bill Rumbles, in- spired by our inviting cast, joined us then and became a fellow Starlet. Ninth grade will be long remembered by all, including James Blauvelt, Eleanor Brown, Dale Burgess, Jon Davis, Ralph Ellison, Darlene Fisk, Janet Frederick, William Gabel, Jacklyn Gibbs, David Gilchrist, Gordon Glynn, Betsy Hanna, Judy Heathman, Aaron Hyde, Alton Jennings, Robert Jewett, Raymond Karn, Donald Lyon, Mary Mathias, Marvin Scripter, Lee Smith, and Ronald Surato. It was then that we started our beginning rehearsal. By our sophomore year, we all had begun to experience the joy, the sadness, and failures of Show Biz. Merrell Butler, Tom Christensen, Milton Morlock, and Dorothy Whittaker took their places on the set. Alas! Dress rehearsal had arrived. To help us with our presentation, Bill Davis and Betty Dunlap displayed great showmanship. LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! Our curtain rises and our show is well on its way. Ushering our applauding audience were Keith Otis, Margaret Roy, Fern Thomas, and Daniel Tink. Back stage a veteran showman exclaims, There's never been anything like it before. Our remarkable cast of seventy-five all heave a sigh of satisfaction firmly convinced, There's no busi- ness like show business. Uladd .fvlid tory We came, we saw, we conquered. We were twenty trembling, tearful, clinging offspring who made our debut in 1940 trying our best to reach the stairway to the stars. These small fry were Douglas Alderman, Margaret Austin, Richard Bartlett, Charles Bell, James Clark, Lola Clark, David Colby, Elizabeth Fox, Jack Fink, Gloria Gorham, Vonda Karn, Shirley Knight, John Laxton, Keitha Mills, Gerry Rickly, Sandra Scribner, Marvin Shepard, Terry Shultis, Karen Snyder, and Jo Ann Walker. As we approached our years of fame we heard the beckoning call of On stage, everyone, for first call. Our only newcomer entering our overwhelming cast in the first grade was Louise Van Horn. After struggling through these treacherous, but enjoyable two years, we trudged along to second grade. Those anxiously awaiting to perform with us were Ivan Kerr and Loreane Louden- slager. A During the third year Dick Cowan and Norman Ostrom daringly made the grade as members of the cast. In 1944, our show was well under way. We took on several new cast members including Mary Anderson, David Higbie, Bill Post, and Clarence Randall into our spectacular fourth grade. By the beginning of our fifth year, we had reached that long awaited title, Star1ets. Two new starlets entered our troupe after vigorous tryouts. They were Ronald Plakke and Connie Washburn. Throughout these five years of hard work, we often heard the uttered word, Impossible. But with determination we went scampering on to the sixth grade. An anxious new face before us was Roberta Evans. They joined us in Sixth Grade Seniors the ninth grade. Salty I' Page 22 1 .
