' fj if , - A, yr f but ! W-, j'Z'2-iqfycff Track I This is the second season Mason has had track tor one ot its major sports. Although the season is still young, Coach Pearsall has a good array of material. From last year's squad comes Don Doane, half-miler and consistent pointewinner ot last year. August Zimmerman and Iim Seigrist again report this season for the mile run. Ross Hilliard and Dale Fairbotham will do a fine job of handling the pole vault with Dick Hunter and Ioe Fontana holding down the shot putting job. For the dashes, Richard Patterson, Maurice Bailey and Harry Smith are back with a year's experience behind them. lim Young will hurdle and broad jump as he did last year. The new talent out this year will undoubtedly be a great asset to the team. Among those out for the first time are L. Murphy, D. Hilliard, R. Felton, W. Chapman, M. Darrow, D. Beebe, L. Sparling, V. Owen and H. Milliken. This year our schedule provides meets with Eaton Rapids and Howell. Other meets will be the conference meet, the county and state meet and other invitational meets at Hastings and Mt. Pleasant. . Baseball O As is the custom, the Anchora is sent to press at about the same time baseball season opens and little can be said as to the shaping of the team. There are many important positions to be filled which were left vacant as the result of graduation. However, many candi- dates have turned out for these open positions and we are sure there is sufficient material to fill them. The loss of Harry Michitsch, reliable hitter and fast fielding second baseman, through injury is the first bad break to befall the Maroons. This misfortune will weaken the team's prowess at the plate for there are not many consistent hitters on the team. The returning veteran lettermen this year are Raymond Heincelman, Fred Silsby, Paul DeRose, Richard Brown and Duane Evans. Other veterans who were not letter winners are Don Lee, Richard Wolf, Gene Anderson, Bill Bergin, and Robert Colby. The batteries this year will consist of DeRose and Anderson, pitchers, with Don Lee and Mike Simone on the receiving end. ln the last few years, Mason has had winning baseball teams, and, barring unforeseen bad breaks, the Maroons will continue to win this year.
