?1 ANQDIHIDIQA page twenty-F1 ve H1sto1y of the Class of 1931 Tonwht our class totalmg thlrty six come to the close of ou1 school days As we look into the past we see what w1ll be put mto the history of the class of 19,1 Thlrteen years ago elght of our members started school days 1n Mason klndergarten These were Edlth Nlchols Ard1s Ferguson Marle Verhelst Agnes Zimmer John Dart Howard McGowan Kenneth Roblnson and Leona Stob1e We were fa1thfully gu1ded through the first two years by Mlss T1lQLlS Here we learned our A B C s of school Maxwell Bassett came to Mason in the first grade Woodrow Post Jomed our ranks ln the second grade followed by Chf ford Rowland 1n the th1rd and Esther Every 1n the fourth Carefree and happy we passed through the grades year by year but one dlsaster we all 1emember IS the fire IH January 1991 whlch destroyed our school blllldlllg' Th1s was the first break 1n our school career It wasn t long though before school was resumed 1n the churches of the town and the court house wh1le a blllldlflo was being erected Our new blllldlllg was ready for us when we entered the fourth grade We were very proud of 1t and why shouldnt we be? It IS one of the finest schools 1n all the community Puby Brown Chester Sm1th and Margaret Elhs entered IH the exghth grade Puby has proven her talent 111 the senior play Chester IS a car toonlst and Margaret our honor student The next fall we we1e ready for h10h school From all nearby country schools came mmy of our students Leone Smith and Cll1'tlS Bartlett came from the Plnk school Leone IS a talented mus1c1an of the class and Curtis IS an outstanding football player earn1ng an M the first year He was captain of the 1900 football team Hubbard sent us Ted Fay and Harold Scofield Both have D1 oven worthy members and always ready to help our class Flom Barnes school came John Edgar and Mary Bullen from the Nichols school Mary IS another of ou1 muslc pI'Odlg1CS She has also played on the basketball team three years Gretton school sent us another football play er Neal Dolbee BSSSIQ Force who came from Alale don IS mterested 1n commerclal work and Harrlet VanHorn who came from Indlana has done much work 1n the mus1c department Elton Foler represents us 1n dgI'lCllltllI'21l ab1l1ty Qu1ckly we passed through the tr1als of Freshles and we were ready for oul sophomore yeal Pulhng the Freshles through the creek started the year out llght In this year Marjoue Balley from Dansville Walter Paully and Glendon TllClx8l from Lans1ng Eastern Dale Wllcox from Holt and Isabelle Dauow entered ou1 class They brought more athlet1c and alt ab1l1ty to the class Went we V618 p1ocla1medJun1ors Forest H111 Lo1s Tyler and Ida Fanson now Joined Us Each had a lead1ng part IH the semor play Earning money fo1 the annual J Hop w as oul chief proyect We had a stand erected at the athletic field w he1e we selyed hot dogs and candy A magazme campaign and selhnff of candy at school fllHCt1OI1S w ere oul othe1 methods of 1a1s1n0 money Nllss Baldw ell our sponsor faithfully helped us The chmax of the Jumor yea1 was marked by the receptlon May 26 . a . h I . . - . - 1 I C. 1 7 .
