Why Dolly Force from Alaledon And a better one w1ll not be found Dolly sluts so we wont look further Then there s Mary Smlth and Cladys Oesterle Mary went to Detrolt when ln the eleventh grade but Mason Hlgh drew her back 1n the twelfth Gladys IS our honor student Nothlng more need be Salfl about her George and Brewster Ellls are true Enffllshmen And Francls Bulges has made a name for h1mself as a famous basketball player I shall tell you more about Howard Smlley Paul Cheney Clarence Reynolds and Allen Fredeuck later IH my story Hollls Bartlett 1sn t a bad sort of 1 manager IS hardly concelvable Russell Akers belleves 1n coming to school anyway to get here and 1n the deep of wlnter the only way was walklng Sleep sleep sleep how I love to sleep' says Cllfford Cowdry Oh yes' Harry Leseney our opt1m1st rolls over from Holt 1n h1S red Ford every mornmg raln or shlne The tall fellow w1th the good natured grln IS Glen Clme And last but not least of the Freshles are Dee Bray and Doyle Burgess They wandered around a llttle from one school to another but finally llked Mason best The Sophomores actually beheved they would have great fun 1n1t1at1ng our Freshman class and maybe they d1d At any rate the Freshles proved too much for the Sophs Our fellows pulled them through Syca more creek wlth very llttle trouble The Sophs surrendered and peace was restored In the campalgn of the Freshman year there was llttle opposltlon for the presldency Paul Cheney ranked hlgh and he led the class through a successful season The memorv of our classmate Dan Donnahue IS a sad one Dan '1 freshman w1th the others came to Mason Hlgh to play football and he played the best brand of football Whlle he played he never forgot that studies are lmportant too But the Charlotte game m the fall of the year 1078 was a llttle strenuous and Dan was lnjured never to come back to the school and to the team Now that we were cllmblnff stead ly tow ard our goal we began to get acqualnted Sophomore partles chanced to be the prlnclpal means to thls nd Mlss Mc urdy certamly dxd her best to make them peppy The boys took great mterest IH athletlcs and a few of the glrls went out fol basketball -Xnd then our kmd teachers proclalm d us Junlors Evers one worked ll'1ClLlStI'lOl.lSly to make It a good year NIISS Mlnty sponsored our 51ClIlXl tles Howard Smlley w as chosen for presldent VlCtOl Hlll V109 presldent and Harold Copp secretary and treasurer -Xll enelg es were bent toward l'llSlI10' funds for the counmg gala event The bo,s elected a stand at the lr,I lil ,X 1959 la ll 'fa ,1-I - - f X A .Ly 'M' I 'hz if Q, ,f 1 , 1 Capo-li l, F l ,Y 172 ffff 'Aff ' li 7 - Fuse IT 7 . . ti fp IX! aa ASDMAIJDL lg ANCHORA A XA aff 5 HISTORY OF THL CLASS OF 30 To the knights in the days of old Keeplng watch oer the mountaln height Came a vision of Holy Grail And a VOICE through the waiting nlght Follow follow follow the gleam We are like the knlghts IH the days of old Just twelve short years ago we saw visions of greater things perhaps not in the same light that we see them now but to us they were visions to be fulfilled We looked with admiration on the upper classmen and resolved to make our way to the top Doris Harrison Gerald Strlckland and Helen Zimmer are the three Oflglnal members of our group But through the years many others from surrounding commumtles have Jolned us Miss Titus guided us through the first two years of learning just as faithfully as she had guided others years before She soothed our bumps and bruises taught us our first readln and wr1t1n and rithmetlc then finally consented to pass us on to higher learning H M Silsby came to Mason ID the first grade Leah Diehl Jolned our ranks in our second year and Gerry Sawyer followed in the fourth Now to go back a little The unthought of disaster the fire came upon a quiet town in the dark of a January night IH 1921 Men women and children were wakened from sound sleep by the shrill blast of the fire whistle Flames shot like angry demons 1nto the cool air The frame of the old building stood out distinctly in the flood of light Then four walls collapsed It was lost to us forever 'Slot long after the fire school was called m the churches of the town while architects drew plans for a new and finer building and men were put to work to carry out these plans Our new home was ready for us when we entered the fifth grade What a beautlful building it proved to be the finest of all schools 1n the CO'l munity At the beginning of his fifth year in school Clrry St Georg discovered that the Mason first ward school was the place for him so he left the second ward to Join us Perhaps we witnessed one of the proudest moments of our lives the morning the rooms of the high school were opened to us as well as to the upper classmen Loren Leonard quletly took hls place among us Llttl did we realize what hls coming would later mean to our class and our chool Jess Curtis and Geraldine Palmer slipped in 1n the eighth grade Freshmen have a way of coming here from all parts of the countryside and thus our freshman year ushered 1n boys and girls of all descuptlons We have Cary Burns our powerful lefthanded pltcher Lefty s a regular fellow Gretton school sent him here But Gretton did not finish with X4-L-'27 4 1950 9 'f-,. 11 af 'ia - iff' :W . f' - off 45 5 fl, ' fait. ..' 5 : ' l ,inf x, ,- I 1 ,V I . ,Qt lf, i --,, .. nl. K Pzezs school athletlc field and glrls served hot dogs and candy Even the magazlne campalgn created some excltement for there vsas a contest In salesmanship Loren Leonard Jess Curtls Allen Frederlck Harold Bell Howard Smiley Vlctor H111 George Ellls and Ellls Hazelton entered wholeheartedly into the game of football In basketball we were equally well represented And 1n baseball well we were r1ght there Lefty Burns and Butch Leonard surpr1sed those batters and Babe Ruth Reynolds kept the pltchers pretty busy Smlley Just hated to see the ball pass his glove field grabblng onto the ball whenever a chance came There were others too Leah Dlehl and Doris Harrlson began thelr career as Mason s two star guards on the glrls basketball team Les11e hlgh school let Lila Blakely come over here to school that year Perhaps they d1dn t reallze what a rash thmg they were domg for Lila has made a name for herself here 1n scholarsh1p Just see what they lost' On the mght of May 17th the doors of the gym were thrown open to reveal a charmmg orlental tea garden to those who looked on Juniors and Seniors roamed happlly about and finally took thelr places at the dainty tables prepared for the1r use It was a happy occaslon The fall of 1929 brought new helghts to be reached Harold Copp took up the rems as mayor of the school Ellls Hazelton has kept the records and Gladys Oesterle looked after the finances of Mason Hlgh We llked Howard Smlley pretty well for presldent IH our Jumor year so we chose him agaln for 29 and 30 Mr Walcott has dlrected our undertaklngs thls year Copp represeneed us IH debatlng Jess Curtls led the football team as captaln Butch Leonard basketball and Vlctor H111 for baseball George Post IS our physlcs whiz If you want some electrlcal work done Just go to him V1c H111 Hollis Bartlett and Scotty made a good showing m the Judglng contests under the dlrectlon of Mr Bartley Clarence Reynolds was handlcapped because of lllness and dld not enter the state contest HIS vsolk before that time IS well worth recognltlon Lou Blodgett Gerry Sawyer and Elleen Rlpley helped hold up the reputation of the g1rls quartette Elleen came here this year from Belle vue Hlgh And Bllly Dlsappeared the annual Senlor play went over wlth a boom we thlnk thanks to Mlss Hays MISS McCurdy Mr Walcott and to all others who helped us The receptlon was lovely We w11l probably never forget It It marked the end of our hlgh school days Years from novs when the class of 00 Wlll be scattered to all ends of the earth anyone of you may llnger fondly over the pages of the hlstory of that Senlor class back at Mason hlgh school Classmates our names are entered on the pages of hlstory May we l1ve llves vsorthy of the honor' Helen Zlmmer 1 'Q 19210 .-16111: Q ' A pf: 1. fits ,,,.
