li' Wff 9 -2,55 N M ANCHORA 4 H' l S VALEDICTORY Three years ago news spread over the world that a young man had landed 1n Parls at the fimsh of the first non stop fllght from west to east Colonel Charles Llndbergh started out wlth no other purpose but to succeed He had a well bullt plane and no other companlons but the necessary lnstruments for encounterlng dlfficultles He flew through cloud bursts fogs sleet and strong wlnds but he dld not turn back because of dlscouragement or doubt He completed what he began and the world was ready to come forward and say Well done' In h1s famous book We Llndbergh stresses the polnt that he could not have accompllshed what he dld wlthout the ard and cooperatlon he recelved from others So we the class of 1930 are about to leave behlnd the shores we are accustomed to and go forth on a larger adventure the adventure of hfe Heretofore we have been carefully gulded by parents teachers and frlends parents who have provlded us w1th necessary mstruments of materlal welfare and lovingly trarned us ln honesty and c1t1zensh1p teach ers who have ln tralnlng our mlnds taught us the value of good Judgment dependabxllty and falr play our frlends who have always wllllngly offered needed advlce and encouragement ID tlmes of trial Now we must depend upon our own resources more than 1n the past Our hlgh school days w1ll soon be but memorles for they are but a round on the ladder of success whlch we hope to cllmb Our way has not always been paved but through the cooperation of every member of the class we have trled to look over on the brlght slde of hfe We must now say farewell and begm on our Hlght alone We shall pass through fogs of doubt and wlnds of adverslty but we must keep our falth and push on We shall succeed 1f we but remember these few words spoken by Susan Coolldge There IS no standlng stllll Even as I pause The steep path shlfts and I slap back apace No ldllng on the pathway hard and slow I must go forward or must backward go And few would struggle on wlth bleedmg feet, And few would even galn the hlgher helghts, Except for the stern law XYl'l1Cll blds us know We must go forward or must backward go Gladys Oesterle H 1 x L-12 y y D ' N 1950 i I f' F, A.
