li' Wff 9 -2,55 N M ANCHORA 4 H' l S VALEDICTORY Three years ago news spread over the world that a young man had landed 1n Parls at the fimsh of the first non stop fllght from west to east Colonel Charles Llndbergh started out wlth no other purpose but to succeed He had a well bullt plane and no other companlons but the necessary lnstruments for encounterlng dlfficultles He flew through cloud bursts fogs sleet and strong wlnds but he dld not turn back because of dlscouragement or doubt He completed what he began and the world was ready to come forward and say Well done' In h1s famous book We Llndbergh stresses the polnt that he could not have accompllshed what he dld wlthout the ard and cooperatlon he recelved from others So we the class of 1930 are about to leave behlnd the shores we are accustomed to and go forth on a larger adventure the adventure of hfe Heretofore we have been carefully gulded by parents teachers and frlends parents who have provlded us w1th necessary mstruments of materlal welfare and lovingly trarned us ln honesty and c1t1zensh1p teach ers who have ln tralnlng our mlnds taught us the value of good Judgment dependabxllty and falr play our frlends who have always wllllngly offered needed advlce and encouragement ID tlmes of trial Now we must depend upon our own resources more than 1n the past Our hlgh school days w1ll soon be but memorles for they are but a round on the ladder of success whlch we hope to cllmb Our way has not always been paved but through the cooperation of every member of the class we have trled to look over on the brlght slde of hfe We must now say farewell and begm on our Hlght alone We shall pass through fogs of doubt and wlnds of adverslty but we must keep our falth and push on We shall succeed 1f we but remember these few words spoken by Susan Coolldge There IS no standlng stllll Even as I pause The steep path shlfts and I slap back apace No ldllng on the pathway hard and slow I must go forward or must backward go And few would struggle on wlth bleedmg feet, And few would even galn the hlgher helghts, Except for the stern law XYl'l1Cll blds us know We must go forward or must backward go Gladys Oesterle H 1 x L-12 y y D ' N 1950 i I f' F, A. Wa ffff F 45,814-'Z 3 Jflm ANCHORA 'W J X-A AQ PRESIDENT S ADDRESS Our h1gh school days are soon to be over and as we revlew them we are moved by a feellng of regret at the thoughts of leavmg but tmged w1th a glow of eagerness to know what l1es ln the world 0lltSld8 For three years we have watched mth envy and admiration groups of SSHIOTS as they recelved dlplomas and mth dxgmfied tread marched out to do great thmgs and we have been filled vuth prlde to hear of thelr achlevements Four years ago a feellng of frlendshlp that wlll never be broken was bu1It up among members of a class of so called Fresh1es It grew stronger as we came up through the years as Sophomores .Tumors and at last Semors We have come to feel a comradeshlp that can not be express ed ln words The Semors belleve the underclassmen wlll do all that IS m thelr power to keep up that atmosphere of frlendlmess vshlch has Influenced and 1nsp1red us all In domg so they w1ll come to value and esteem the prlv xleges whlch are now thelrs and vxhlch we reluctantly are leavlng The class of 30 w1ll soon be scattered far and vude but though we are actually separated from our Alma Mater the tles of loyalty and frlendshlp can never keep us very far apart To our school we vush the greatest success and happlness, and the contlnuance of the feellng of good comradeshlp whlch has always been a part of Mason Hlgh We shall mlss that more than anythmg when we have gone our way And though we do not want you to be sad or gloomy we shall be happy to know that you do mlss us just a httle, sometlmes Howard Smlley Q 19l'l0,Q Cla ff.. 'QL IW ANCHURA 'W Xl. aff -M-mm Paz 4 VALILDICTORY It IS not an easy task to say farewell to Mason h1gh school We look back over the years and reallze that they have been and probably w1ll be the happlest of our llves Each of us mlght plcture our hlgh school days dlfferently Some mlght see It as a splder splnnlng 1tS web a weaver pattern1ng a beautlful tapestry or a puzzle that had taken four years to solve These are dlfferent VIBWN but after all are they not s1m1lar'7 Each IS a work that requlres tlme and patlence to complete In my mmd I see a beautlful tree At first 1ts leaves were small green buds but as tlme passed they grew large and strong The gardener pruned and cared for the tree puttmg the wayward branches back lnto the1r places All through the summer the leaves remalned w1th the tree some t1mes dancmg and fluttermg 1n the breeze other t1mes battllng the w1nd and storms In the fall they were brlght and gay IH thelr autumn colors for at l-Ist the1r work IS done and they are ready to go Along comes the w1nd and they are gone each on lts separate way Llke these leaves our class has had good t1mes and troubles We haxe also had helpers Tomght we w1sh to thank our parents and teachers and all those who have helped us reach our goal Although we are leavlng our sp1r1t and best w1shes w1ll always be w1th 'Vlason Hlgh The good t1mes we have had and the frlends we have made w1ll never be forgotten Too soon comes graduatlon and llke a puff of w1nd w1ll scatter us each taklng hlS own path Next year new leaves w1ll come to the tree of Mason hlgh school Thev w1ll become strong and hardy because of the sturdy tree upon Wh1Ch thev grow It cheers and comforts us as we leave to know that these new leaves w1ll carry on the sp1r1t of Mason and share ln 1fS honor happlness and frlendshlp Llla Blakely - N 1930 -, A, 1 1 ,- 'ar if Sxxet CZ X X l 1 'X' I .' s , ' -'L 1 Q ' 3 sk . ll , '2 ' 5 . ,f , , hy , tx k X , YAQ V H V Aff I.
