M H 8 ANCHOIA 1978 Superlntendenfs Address Mason Mlchlgan Aprll P 1928 lo the I raduates ot the Cl ass of 1978 Four years ago I entered Mason Hlgh School as dld also you the gl mduates of 1928 and we have worked together ethclently and happlly fox the past four years but now we are both about to leave Mason Hlgh School Although we wxll undoubtedly v1s1t here 1n the future we w1ll never be connected w1th the 1nst1tut1on IH the same capacltles that we have been md w1ll never feel qulte the same toward the old school We pass on to look for further adventures and greater Opp0I'tl.ll'11t1eS for human servlce 1nd others move up to fill our places here Although we have both made nnstakes we have much to look back upon wlth prlde md we should re membel that he who makes no mlstakes does nothlng But what of the future' Of course we face It wlth confidence but neveltheless w1th some trep1dat1on Are there not helpmg compamons whom we may take w1th us as we go forward? ANCHORA, 1928 An Appreciation of Our Superintendent As a symbol of the affectlon and gratltude wh1ch are Justly due h1m we dedicate thls page of our Anchora to Mr DeMer1tt Most of us have had the prlvllege of knowmg Mr DeMer1tt not only as our Supermtendent but as our frlend and always we have known h1m to be the sort of man that can ever be looked up to wlth respect and admlra tion the sort of man that IS fitted to be placed at the head of an 1nst1tut1on where the youth of the country IS bulldlng lts character for l1fe the sort of man to whom people confidently trust thelr chlldren w1th the knowledge that they w1ll have the benefit of an example of strength and courage always before them Mr DeMer1tt has always ably upheld the standards of our school and the reputatlon Mason Hlgh School has for the hlgh moral standards and clean sportsmanshlp to a conslderable extent are due to the man who has for three years headed the admmlstratlve board of th1s school Aside from the moral and splrltual mfluence wh1ch he has had Super mtendent DeMer1tt has done a great deal toward materlally benefittlng M H S The library wh1ch has been so rapldly bullt up ln the last few years owes ltS development to h1m and he has helped secure for us the hlghly competent faculty wh1ch has glven us the advantage of thelr knowledge so efliclently nn the past three years We regret exceedlngly that he must leave us th1s year but wlth our regrets we tender h1m most s1ncere wlshes for success of wh1ch our hearts are capable Ourselves unable to 1n any measure reward h1m for what he has done here we can only say that we hope w1th all our hearts he w1ll be amply repald by the success he achleves ln h1s new posltlon So IH farewell we would say Goodbye our fr1end we are sorry to lose you how sorry we cannot say but may the Grace of God go wlth you and Success attend you forever Va.
