Cinderella comes from Mason Coun- ty! Our girls went to the Girls' State Tournament to win, despite an opener against number one Laurel County. After a hard fought game with the lead going back and forth, Michelle Swartz clinched the game for Mason County with a last second freethrow to win by two points. Unfortunately, we lost to eventual champions Whitley County in the second round, but the Lady Royals made their presence felt throughout the state. 6

RUPP ARENA IS ROYAL COUNTRY AGAIN! Lexington and the Kentucky High School Athletic Associ- ation rejoiced. The Mason County Royals and their rabid fans were returning to the state tournament. Our invasion began in its usual grand fashion with the Royal Bash provided by Royal Super Fan Clyde Barbour. Then an hour or so before tip off, we began our exodus from the Continental Inn to Rupp Arena. Our Royals faced the favored Lexington Catholic Knights in what was toured to be a close, ex- citing Catholic win. Nobody told us! We came to play basketball, and we came to win! Everyone of us played in that game: the fans, the band, the cheerleaders, the coaches, but above all the ball team. Each gave his best, but if Rupp were the prize, it would be- long to Chris O’Hearn and Deron Feldhaus. Both gave lessons in basketball during our win over Catholic and our loss to Louisville Doss. 8
