LOOKOUT SGT. PEPPER, OUR BAND IS BETTER! The Mason County High School Band has completed a full marching band season. Under the direction of Field Commander Maureen' McClanahan, the band proudly boasts a seasons winnings of 2 first place tro- phies, and 3 second place trophies. The band also trav- eled to Nashville Tennessee in May of 1980 to partici- pate in a concert band contest where they received a high third place. In October of this year, the band had the rare honor of playing for President Carter at Tri- State Airport in Huntington, W. Va. Joining the Presi- dent were John Y. Brown Jr., Sen. Wendell Ford, Carl Perkins, and Cooter from the Dukes of Hazzard. After shaking the President's hand, junior Dawn Scilley remarked, He was a very warm and receiving person. 9

ON OUR WAY... TO THE SUPER BOWL!!! Above and Right: The Mason County Royals' two year old varsity team takes on the Fleming County Pan- thers. There are several senior members of the football team who need to be recognized for their leadership during the great season. They are: Jim Brogan, Mile Murray, Al- len Feldhaus, Tony Pollit, Darrin Wallingford, Mark Crawford, Danny Wheeler, Brian Reed, Bill McDowell, and Wayne Grandison. They did a fine job but our team will still progress like in the 1980 season. Our football team, in just their second varsity season, achieved a fine record of 5 wins and 5 losses. This was a great year for our great team in that they enjoyed their first Homecoming victory by crushing West Carter 48-6. Also this year. Mason County had three players to make first team All-Conference. They were Ken Render—Wide Receiver; Jim Brogan—Middle Linebacker, and Allen Feldhaus— Safety. Feldhaus also made Honorable Mention—All State at the Safety position. Steve Butcher announced his resignation as head coach of the Royals football team. Coach Butcher has been with the Royal Football program from the beginning in the 8th grade. Members of the team and student body would like to express their thanks for such a great job. He will be missed in the future. n
