Mason County Future Homemakers of America. MADE NOT BORN The Mason County FHA Chapter has been busy this year with their many activities and community functions. Each chapter needs money to operate successfully. To start their year off, they held many money making projects which included a tractor pull at the Minerva School which involved many parents, faculty, and members of the student body. Candy and bake sales plus their annual candy bar sale in- creased the budget to handle the social events. Dads loved Daddy Date night, and the dances-Halloween, Christmas, and Valentines, proved to be fun and successful. Mrs. Ann Porter, the chapter advisor, keeps this chap- ter strong with her guidance and support. This year she ad- vised the State President and Regional 1st V.P. All girls enjoyed writing Santa letters for local children. The Gover- nor’s visit allowed several girls to participate as aides. There was a dinner for the Needy Kids, and once again, the FHA sent workers. This year the Mason County Chapter was an Honor Roll chapter which is an honor that comes from hard work. This year Diane Roberson was elected State FHA Presi- dent which kept her busy with her many duties. Karen Tubbesing was also busy as Regional 1st Vice President. To end the year, a Mother-Daughter Banquet is held to give awards of achievement and an installation service takes place for incoming offices plus a get together for mothers and their daughters. The yearbook staff worked many hours this past year to produce the best book possible for the students of Mason County High School. There were many changes this year including a new style of senior portraits and a new company to publish the book. The seniors were able to get their pic- tures made in environmental back- grounds which has added to the book. The new company is Inter-Collegiate Press, and has given the MaCoHi a new look for ’76. Many students worked long and hard at what can be a thank- less job. We of the MaCoHi staff hope that you will enjoy this book for many years to come as it holds some of you and some of us. 37 LONG AND HARD TO RECORD Front Row: Sherry Dearing, Cindy Phillips, Kim Bramel, Lisa Otterson, T.A. Front Row Debbie Ravencraft, Nancy Landers, Terri Brown, Chyleigh Cropper, second row—Shawn Brothers, Mary Wood, Marcella Cham- bers, Nadine Oliver, Kay Riggs, Susan Hickerson, and Holland (absent-Kathy Felice. Our two year old team which in- cluded some new first year members had an impressive pre- tournament record of 15 wins to only four losses. By the end of the state tournament, this record was boosted to a healthy 22 wins to 5 losses. Each girl grew personally through out the year. They all improved as players and people learning from each other, their opponents, and their coach. Hutch deserves all our thanks and a whole heap of our praise for the job he has done this year. Even with this great year behind them, Hutch and his girls are already looking forward to another great season next year as he has no senior members who would leave a void in his line up. All year we had a feeling of “this is our year.’’ We knew our team had what it takes to emerge victorious from both the 39th district and the 10th region. We had the talent, the coach, and the spirit. The season was fantastic, and our hopes were high. With the junior varsity cheerleaders backing them up, we knew and hoped that no one could stop our gifted girls. The district was great with hugh crowds in our own fieldhouse. The region was scary in a foreign Clark County gym where the home team was the favorite, but with many of our fans there to cheer and yell, they held on. Hoping against hope yet afraid to hope too much and to be- lieve too much, the fans came and came and yelled and yelled. There were many leading prayers scattered in with our cheers as well. Finally on Sunday, March 14, we were on our way to Richmond after defeating Bracken County by fifteen wonderful points. Our prayers had been granted our hopes fulfilled. Our fantastic girls were going to the state tournament. JS MASON COUNTY MARCHES The Mason Coun- ty Girls’ Basketball Teani won the 39th district by defeating first Fleming County 69-64 in a barn burning game then winning over Mays- ville 58-38. Nancy Landers drives the basket. The 39th District winners cut the nets. 56 THROUGH DISTRICT REGION The jubilant Region 10 champs collect their trophies. The second step to state tournament was conquered in the Clark County gym where our team emerged victorious from the 10th region after defeating Pendleton County 45-33, Bath County 64-51 in overtime, and Bracken County 64-51. The Clark County Gymnasi- um exploded as our girls finally made our dreams come true as we chanted: “24-6-8 Mason County’s Going to STATE!” “Hutch” led the way. Jane Holland scores! AND ON TO STATE I’m proud of these girls.” These words were spoken by Coach Bob Hutchison after the Mason County had made it all the way to the semi-finals of the state tournament in Richmond and Eastern Kentucky University. On the way, they won fans from every where with their heart stopping games. The Mason County Girls don’t listen when people tell them they can’t. They were’nt even supposed to be in Richmond in March of the ’76 state tournament during the week of March 17-21. After a well fought and convincing win over Edmundson County in the first round, our great girls see-sawed with Jenkins through regulation play and not one but two overtimes to win 57-53. The fans got their money’s worth that day—even Jane Holland’s mother who suffered every second of both overtimes like a true fan. Next, it was on to Butler in the semi-finals on Saturday morning. This was our last step, but no defeat was ours. Just being there was a victory. The Butler team which had been playing for several years, stopped us with a 6141 vic- tory. Not bad for a little Mason County team ranked 16th out of 16 teams. Everyone’s trying, but Susan’s got it Get up Susan and Mary! We chanted, “Get up Celia, get up!” And she did! 58 TOURNAMENT GLORY To all of our basketball gals, the yearbook says, “Congratulations on a well deserved triumph. We realize and appreciate how hard you have worked all year to get there.” Thanks goes also to Coach Hutchison who worked as hard as his girls to help us realize our sixteen year old dream. Thanks, congratulations, and good luck for 76-77. Debbie Ravencraft and Kathy Felice cheer from the bench. Nancy, Marcella, and Susan all fight for control of the ball. Cinderella lives on in the shapes of 12 young Princesses of Kings’ Basketball court. The Kentucky press went wild in their praise for Terri Brown whose snowbirding act plus great shooting sparked our girls more than once. Sharing headlines was also Marcella Chambers who made three clutch points to turn the tide in the win over Jenkins. And what a win that was! Two overtimes. Mason County fans lost pounds and voices jumping, clap- ping, and yelling. That was the sec- one game. Never sell the first one short. Susan Hickerson received her headlines for her fine work in the center position as it was touch and go for a while with Edmundson County who had been favored to win. Thanks go to all of our girls who, (even though they weren’t e en supposed to make it out of our region,) made our dream come more than true by going all the way from District-to region-to the semi-finals of the state tournament. 59 THE NEVER SAY DIE Mr. Branson congratulates Rick O’Cull on a job well done. A poor defense contrib- uted to a large majority of the team’s playing problem. Nevertheless, the team finished runner-up in our dis- trict tournament, and was beaten in the semi-finals of the Regional Baseball tournament. Improvement in the team was seen due to the finish at tournament time. Jimmy Kissick was the team leader in Batting Average and Runs Batted In. Through much patience and gnawed moustache, we accomplished very much. Tired members after a band trip. The Mason County Band played at all ballgames to invoke spirit and encourage success. The band also played for the girls basketball team in Richmond to push them on to victory. As anyone can tell you, the girl’s didn’t need pushing. With the addition of flag girls this year, the band entered several marching contests this year, including Morehead, Ashland, and Paintsville. The band also had the honor of selected members participating in the First All-Regional Band in Kentucky. Members of the band enjoyed a trip to Atlanta, GA. in May for a concert, and attended the amuse- ment park. Six Flags Over Georgia, and visited Underground Atlanta. This trip was just reward for the work of selling popcorn and fruit. 79 80 r AA i?I A A — OWKN BRADLEY APPLEGATE WILMA APPLEGATE JAMES LAWRENCE BARBOUR SHARON KAY BERRY GINA MARIE BISOTTI 82 SENIORS GRADUATE IN DANA LOUIS BLEVINS NANCY KAY BLEVINS SHARON KAYE BLYTHE LAWRENCE WILLIAM BONE LINDA LEE BOULDEN ALBERT BOYD KIMBERLY GAYE BRAMEL LAURA ANNE BRAMEL TERRY RAY BRAMEL THE SPIRIT OF ’76 83 DIANA LYNNE BRAYFIELD CYNTHIA DENISE CAMPBELL HARRY LEE CAMPBELL 84 DENNIS KEITH CARVER RICKY DALE CLARK CYNTHIA ANN CLOS MICHAEL OWEN COLLINS DIANA FAY CORD DANA ELLEN COLUMBIA HAROLD LEE COMER TIM THOMAS COMER MARY ANN CRACRAFT 86 SHERRI LYNN DORN MARK RICHARD DOWNING CINDY LOU DOYLE STACEY DONALDSON DOYLE RICHARD DARRELL DOYLE TERRI ANN DUGAN BEDOUIN LYNN DUNCAN JANE EBERLY DAVID E.
