Band 42 43 MASON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BAND Vocal Music This year for the first time, every high school event at the Morehead Choral Festival received a superior rating. In February, they gave a special concert in Morehead. Four students went to All-State Orchestra. 46 Girls' State Delegates Vicky Wheeler-FHA Lillie Clark-Beta Karen Jo Humphrey- Co Ed Y Vicky Hesler- Latin State Degree Girls Terry Carter, Annette Renchen, Elizabeth Maynard, Peggy Vaughn, Mary Ruth Hay, Debbie McGee, Mildred Smith, Paula Spencer, Vicki Wheeler, Duff Calvert, Kathy Jo Bramel, and Laura Williams. 47 Boys' Golf Mason County has participated in golf for nine years. During that time they have produced seven regional team championships and two runners up. In 1967 Mason County won the team state tournament. In individual competition Mason has produced two state champions; Mike Faurest-1964, and Jim Striplin-1972. Mason County has had three regional medalists. Joe Traxel-1969, and Jim Striplin in 1971 and 1972. This years team compiled a total team record of 87 wins, 25 losses. They were regional champs and finished ninth in state competition. BOY’S GOLF TEAM 1972-73: Ronnie Henson, Mark Tubbesing, Jimmy Downing, Mr. Elmer Smith-coach, Jim Striplin, Greg Erwin, Billy Frazier, Ross Smith. 48 JIM DOWNING GREG ERWIN 49 Girls' Golf 1972-73 was a rebuilding year for Mason Coun- ty Girls Golf. The team ended the year with a 2-8 record. Debi Striplin qualified as an in- dividual for the State Golf Tournament held at Glasgow. The senior members of this year’s team were Duff Calvert and Laura Williams. Debi Striplin, Karen Tubbesing, Mindy Bernardin, Carma Jefferson, Duff Calvert, Linda Cobum, and Laura Williams. 50 Drill Team The following were the Senior members of the Drill Team: Debbie Lykins-one year Sandy Adams-one year Stacy Smalley-three years. She was the captain and the most outstanding member of the team. Debbie Reed-one year Debbie Jackson-two years (Debbie Fields and Pam Tolle were absent on this day) Debbie Reed, Kay Adams, Sandy Adams, Carla Whalen, Darlene Bramel, Windy Paul, Debbie Lykins, Pan Dunlap, Stacy Smalley, Mrs. Doris Cain (Sponsor), Caren Crockett, Debbie Jackson, Debbie Beckett, Mari lyn Markell, Paige Vice, Pam Teegarden, Linda Coburn. 52 Track — Boys and Girls The boy Track Team was coached Mr. Jefferson. 54 The Girl Track Team was coached by Mrs. Doris Cain. 55 The Varsity Cheerleaders were: Laura Williams, Connie Wallen, Louise Zeigler, Luanne Kilgus, Lillie Clark, Terry Carter, Debbie Hutchison, Vicky Wheeler, and Duff Calvert. The 1972-73 Varsity Cheerleaders were Captained by Debbie Hutchison and Louise Zeigler. The squad consisted of seven veteran members three of whom, Duff Calvert, Connie Wallen, and Deb- bie Hutchison, were four year Cheerleaders. Lou- ise Zeigler was a three year member. The squad was successful in winning the cheer- leading championship at district level. Louise Zegler and Debbie Hutchison were awarded out- standing Cheerleader awards by the squad and ball players respectively. 56 The Freshman Cheerleaders for this year were: Pam Welch-Captain, Bedouin Duncan, Kelly Ruggles, and Gale Gudgell. The J. V. Cheerleaders were: Debbie McNutt, Kim Bramel, Billie Gwynne Pyles, Karen Tubbesing, Lori Moneyhon, Debra Murray, and Kavin Hamilton. The J. V. Cheerleaders were captained by Billie Gwynne Pyles and Debra Murray. They completed a successful year by winning the district Cheer- leading trophy. Two girls, Debra Murray and Debbie McNutt received awards for serving two years as a Cheerleader. Billie Gwynne Pyles was named Outstanding Cheerleader by the squad. 57 Intramural Basketball SEAGRAM-SEVEN won 1st place in the Intramural Basketball Tourna- ment.
