VsV% ' feAV, in ' âșV i âą% ' ffiv:;j:::r. 7 orea on cf With this fourth edition of Ma-Co-Hi, we feel that our school has come of age. Seniors graduating this year of 1964 are members of the first class to have spent all of their high school years here. Before this, graduating classes had spent some of their high school years at Orange- burg, Minerva, or Mayâs Lick while our new school, was being built. While these classes may have had fond memories of high school days in their small community high schools, as well as of those here, this class will have only a store of memories of Mason County High. New friends, new' building, new experiences, new teachers of four years ago have blended into a feeling of unity, appreciation, satis- faction, and happiness with Mason County High School. Our school has come of age. 3 ()ur 7. )e c 'omina Committee Come with us, we show to you 7 )ho we are and what we cfo. 4 These girls, ready and waiting to show us around, are Evelyn Taylor, Grace Pyles, Sharon Poe, Caroline Boone, Kay Hutchison, Patty Coffey, Phyllis Mastin. Our Principal, Mr. Elza Whalen, Jr. Mr. Whalen has been principal for the four years that Mason County High School has been open. It would not be the same M.C.H.S. without him. With a fitting blend of authority and understanding, he is welf equipped for his tremendous job of dealing with students' and teachersâ problems, supervising school activities, and maintaining strict discipline. 6 ââStudies serve for de iyfit, for ornament' ancf for af)i ittj. d ieir c iief use f r de iyfit is in prioa eness- for ornament, is in discourse. â Ricky Vice and Carol Hesterâ ornament Marcus Woodward; freshman, claimed first place in the physical science division of the Regional Science Fair at Morehead in April. Our school has the only complete speech and drama program in this region. Students pictured above are: Judy Tucker. Johanna Hull. Bonnie Craft. Martha Rees. Sharyn Poe. SECOND ROW: Bob Hull, Gregg Hume, Bob Humphries. Marty Simpson, Don Nute, Bill Marshall, Bill Newell, Bob Cochran, and Jimmy Barn-. This spokesman for the juniors, Don Nute, shows the poise and ability which acquired for him a second-place rank in the finals of the State Speech Festival in the very difficult division of Extemporane- ous Speaking. Sharyn Poe looks to tomorrow as she rehearses for her role as Mrs. Keeney in He.â This role won for this senior girl an acting award in the State Drama Festival at Lexing- ton. Gregg Hume, a sophomore, demonstrates the technique that placed him fifth in the finals of the Original Oratory contest in the State Speech Festival. The writing and presentation of an oration is a highly esteemed art. Bonnie Craft listens while Don Nute expounds. They were the varsity debate team for 1963-64. These four are smiling about their state Superiors in the Kentucky High School Speech Festival. They are Sharyn Poe, dramatic interpre- tationâserious; Gregg Hume, original oratory; Don Nute, extemporaneous speaking; and Marty Simpson, discussion. Eighty seniors made the class trip to Washington in April. This picture and the Junior-Senior Prom The Junior-Senior prom was a festive occasion for all. The theme for the setting and decoration was Bali Hai.â Michael Faurest, seated left, was crowned King of the Prom, and Sharon Towler, seated, was Prom Queen. The selection of the reigning couple was made by the junior class. The attendants were Jim Plummer and Debbie Gardner, standing and placing the crowns. The attendants were chosen by the senior class. 64 7.7.71. We have had another successful year.
